Better Home and Gardens Old-Fashioned Home Baking is the best baking cookbook I've ever bought. Every recipe I've made has been superb...looking and tasting. Recipes are concise and fairly easy to understand. End products are delicious. Also included in the book are tips for making your baked goods look special and fancy for holidays or parties. Hands down, it's a winner for anyone who likes to bake or wants to learn.

This cookbook is amazing. I like to just sit and drool over all of the pictures! I have made so many things from this book and all have been wonderful. It's easy to follow and most recipes are fairly quick in the making. If you like yummy stuff, this here's your book!

Over the years of canning, cooking, preserving, eating right for my blood type, being active, being fit, and just plain messing, doodling, experimenting in the kitchen, this cookbook presented some great recipes. The strawberry kuchen easily adapted to the elephant heart plums that I canned. With that success, I went on to adapt many of the recipes to other items that I had canned. So enjoy, play with some of the varieties presented in the book. And remember, adapt away, I still get requests for baked goods that I oopsed! on, and now have to keep the recipe for.

The pictures in the cookbook are well worth having the book for reference, and starting young chefs on their way in the kitchen. Add apron, couple of mixing spoons, one attentive adult, oven mittens to spare and wah-lah tomorrow's inspired bakers right in your kitchen.

Enjoy the possibilities of creating!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great cookbook, October 14, 2010

My mom had a copy of this cookbook when I was a kid, and some of my favorite recipes for biscuits and bread are contained therein. It was also a great tool while we were planning 4-H Food & Nutrition projects because there are nutritional analyses for all of the recipes. All-around great cookbook!

Like the other reviewer, we just ordered a replacement copy because our first one (paperback) is worn out from use. We have been making recipes out of this book for years and I'd be lost without it. Very infomative and user-friendly! I would especially recommend it to a novice baker or anyone who may be intimidated by the idea of making bread or rolls. This book makes it all so easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars best baking book!!! all the classics/staples!!, May 20, 2009
This review is from: Better Homes and Gardens Old-Fashioned Home Baking (Better Homes & Gardens Test Kitchen) (Hardcover)
I copied a lot!! of recipes when I got this book at the library. I was tickled pink when I bought it on Amazon. Don't use the cinnamon roll filling recipe with white sugar, use brown sugar instead. [My ONLY disagreement with this book.] Everything turns out as heavenly as described.

This purchase is a replacement purchase. We wore through the binding on the first copy. This book is full of wonderful, easy to follow recipes that always turn out delicious. We look like master bakers but never attended baking classes. This is the easiest baking/pastry book I have ever tried to follow. This book is a wonderful gift if you know anyone that wants to master baking without a lot of effort.
