5.0 out of 5 stars Marty Balin: Better Generation
To anyone who has ever gone to see but especially hear Marty Balin perform with Jefferson Starship and thought to themselves "That man can sing anything" wait no longer to take a listen to this CD, even if you have to look high and low to find it. 1.0 out of 5 stars Awful! Sorry!
I loved Marty Balin's emergence as a soloist (like Miracles, With Your Love, Runaway, etc.) and his first solo LP (Hearts, Atlanta Lady)...

...but this one doesn't sound anything like that. I bought it and was disappointed not to find ONE song I even halfway liked.

Overproduced, too rock-oriented... perhaps likable to his earlier hippy days...

How rare to encounter an instrument as dynamic as Marty's, with a range beyond imagination, you will find rock, ballads, and even country tunes on Better Generation. This CD is also noteable in that Kerry Kearney plays lead and bass guitar, and if you are unfamiliar with Kerry it is high time you got to know him, check out his website and hear what he's been up to since Better Generation. Let It Live!

I gave it a shot, but donated this one to my local thrift store.

always thought this guy was one of the best rock
vocalists. this generous cd gives many reasons marty
was the true soul of jefferson airplane/starship.
the version of volunteers on the cd is closer to the way it
used to sound at the fillmore east in 1969. electric..

Excellent album, if you like Marty Balin's style of music you'll like this cd. It has some remakes on the cd "Let it Live" and "See the Light" were re-recorded for Jefferson Starship's "Windows of Heaven" cd that came out in 1999 and "Summer of Love" is a remake from Jefferson Airplane's reunion cd from 1989, and of course "Volunteers" and "Its No Secret" are both remakes, I like all the songs that are on the cd my favorite song is "Better Generation" as I said excellent album, buy it.
