5.0 out of 5 stars Great recipes in a convenient format!, February 23, 2008
This review is from: Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book: Recipe Card Collection: 200 of the Best Recipes (Better Homes & Gardens Plaid) (Cards)
This is a great recipe card collection box! It's so convenient: rather than copy the recipe out of a cookbook so you can take it to the grocery store to pick up the ingredients, you can just take the card with you.

They're the size of index cards with 10 dividers, like:
- Breakfast, Brunch & Lunch
- Meat
- Poultry
- Fish & Shellfish, etc.

On the front of the cards behind each tab is the name and a picture of the recipe, along with information on prep time, bake time, & number of servings. On the back of the cards, the ingredients are on the left and the instructions for making the meal are on the right.

There are also 50 blank recipe cards in the back so you can add your own recipes. And the box looks so nice, you can leave it out in your kitchen. Very handy!

Better Homes and Gardens says this includes 200 of their best recipes, and I would have to agree based on the ones we've tried so far. Two we've particularly liked are:
- Tex-Mex Chicken and Rice Casserole
- Chicken Parmigiana

I would highly recommend this recipe card collection to anyone!

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Good for Starting Out, September 25, 2008
This review is from: Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book: Recipe Card Collection: 200 of the Best Recipes (Better Homes & Gardens Plaid) (Cards)
The cover price on this item is a bit high, but if you can find this on sale, I highly recommend it. There are 200 recipes and the instructions are usually easy to follow. It's perfect for those people who know the basics of cooking, but don't know a lot of recipes as there are a lot of basics and staples in here, such as homemade pancakes and cookies from scratch as well as a few more obscure and eclectic dishes. If you've already got a collection of recipes and cookbooks, you probably don't need this. But it's perfect for a college student or someone just moving out on their own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Recipe Cards, Convenient For Teens - Recommended, August 26, 2009
This review is from: Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book: Recipe Card Collection: 200 of the Best Recipes (Better Homes & Gardens Plaid) (Cards)
The included recipes are listed as the "200 of the Best recipes from the Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book - in one box!", and it really is a nice set recipes which are organized into 10 categories, with 50 blank cards for our own recipes. This shouldn't be the only recipe collection you have, but it does make a nice augmentation to Joy of Cooking or the fantastic More-With-Less Cookbook : Suggestions By Mennonites on How to Eat Better and Consume Less of the World's Limited Food Resources and Mennonite community cookbook;: Favorite family recipes.

The cards contain a full color picture of the dish, total time to make, the number of serving, ingredient list, detailed instructions, and the nutritional information. I like that there are often variations listed as well.

This is a good set for teens to work from in the kitchen as the cards are easier to use than most traditional cook books. My only real complaint is that the cards are fairly thick and sturdy, they should be "plasticized" to better protect them from spills and normal kitchen wear.

Recommended!

I will be using these recipes a lot. The recipes use everyday and easy to get ingredients. Love the convenience of using recipe cards vs having to use a cookbook. I can leave some of the quick to make recipes in my car if I need to shop last minute for dinner. You can't beat Better Homes and Gardens recipes. They always turn out good.
