5.0 out of 5 stars all there is to know for a beginner
I learned to all there was to know about cooking and serving a meal from "BETTER HOMES ANE GARDENS COOKBOOK" when I was a bride 55 years ago, I have bought this book for my children and grandchildren through the years. I recommended it highly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disapponting & Misleading Purchase
For those people out there who think the whole cookbook is full of blue ribbon winning recipes like I did, there is only one tiny section of these, with a standard cookbook in the following sections, probably just like the one you already have. If I had known this from the start, I would not have bought this. It is a very good overall cookbook, so don't get me wrong, but...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disapponting & Misleading Purchase, July 5, 2009

For those people out there who think the whole cookbook is full of blue ribbon winning recipes like I did, there is only one tiny section of these, with a standard cookbook in the following sections, probably just like the one you already have. If I had known this from the start, I would not have bought this. It is a very good overall cookbook, so don't get me wrong, but how many of the same cookbooks does one cook need? I feel the title is misleading and therefore it was a disappointing purchase. The breast cancer pink editions do the same thing, with putting one new section in an otherwise duplicate cookbook, but you don't mind as much since the money goes for a good cause. Unless you don't have any of these cookbooks already, don't buy this one.

I also gave one to each of my daughters !mine did not have award winnimg recipes in it. so this is a bonus ! but there are a lot of recipes that became family favorites throuout the years. 2.0 out of 5 stars NOT the Prizewinning Edition, just the 14th Edition, October 23, 2010

This review is from: Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book, Limited Edition: Prizewinning Recipes (Better Homes & Gardens Plaid) (Ring-bound)
I ordered this item and received the standard 14th Edition. When they send me a replacement, I also received the standard 14th Edition. I had seen this book in bookstores and knew what to look for (like the giant bow on the cover). Amazon discounted the edition they sent me and investigated. A week later they determined that they had sent me the correct edition, they said they even checked with the publisher. This is clearly incorrect, I actually went out and purchased the prizewinning edition. Though there are many of the same or similar recipes, if you actually want the prizewinning ones DO NOT buy this edition, because you won't get them.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great cookbook for beginners, December 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This cookbook has some wonderful recipes and is a great tool for people who are just starting to cook. Even if you consider yourself a seasoned expert, it still has some nice recipes in it to use, and has some nice, classic American cooking.

I read another review where someone thought that it was all prize-winning recipes, and I suppose others have thought so, too. I have no idea why they would assume that. If you read the description, it's very clear (at least I think it is). However, I do agree that if you already own a copy of this book, unless you really want the recipes you don't need to get this one. Besides, I'm sure you can find those recipes online somewhere and just print them out and stick them in the book (remember, it's designed like a binder, so you can easily put your own recipes in there, too).

Coming from someone who has been cooking for probably around 17 or 18 years, I think it's a fine book and it definitely deserves a spot on your cookbook shelf.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average Better Homes & Gardens Cook Book, July 18, 2011
I bought this book from half price books thinking that it was going to be full of "Prize Winning Recipes"

Only to find out that once I got home and really started looking at the book it was just an updated version of the regular Better Homes & Gardens Cook Book.

It does have prize winning recipes in the first couple of pages but the rest of the cook book is just regular recipes. I already own the "Breast Cancer" version if the Better Homes & Garden Cook Book.

They seem to be very similar. The Better Homes & Gardens Cook Books are good cook books but I was just hoping that this would be full of prize winning recipes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Updated Cookbook Classic, July 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My first Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook was bought by my parents more than 50 years ago, that cookbook introduced me to many wonderful classic American homemade recipes. I thought that was a perfect and romantic cookbook already. Now with this just bought "Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book, Limited Edition: Prizewinning Recipes", I am even more delighted with this updated Cookbook Classic. Highly recommended.

Bought this book to replace an older model that just fell apart. Most of the standard receipes are the same plus some new addition. A great book for the newer chef.
