The essence of this book is beautifully captured in the joy expressed in Martha's Herbary owner Michelle King's smile as she is photographed standing barefoot in the grass holding a colorful basketful of potted herbs. King is one of several herb specialists profiled in this wonderful compendium which is not the usual boring "steps one, two and three" herbal instruction book. Better Homes & Gardens has left no stone unturned in uncovering ways to incorporate herbs not only into your garden but into your lifestyle. Craft projects, flavor profiles, recipes, decorating ideas and an encyclopedia are all part of the informational mix here, nicely illustrated with full color photography. Even apartment dwellers and those with a brown thumb can become successful herb gardeners after perusing the tidbits of information and inspiration provided by this book!

Unfortunately for me, this book is filled with so many good ideas that most of the spring will be spent building a herb garden. This book is not only a design book but also has suggestions on how to pair flowers and fruit with herbs to keep them all in good health.

This is another beautiful book to look at. It gives you all kinds of ideas on garden arrangements for all types of grdens big or small. It tells you what type of containers, how to fill them with peat moss or other well draining soils how to place the plant or plants into the container and where to place them for a most attractive garden you could have.It alsotells you where to place herbs in your regular type garden areas along with drying and storing herbs. It also has an enccyclopedia of well known herbs as well as a few I've never heard of before. I bought several of these type books to compare notes. I'm glad I did because the more information ou get the better your success. The photographs are very nice to have as another reference. I would but this book again it;s so nice.

This book is a great addition to my KISS approach to home life. Even if I don't have the time to plant, just learning my herbs is valuable
