This review is from: Better Homes and Gardens Wood Woodworking Tools You Can Make (Hardcover)
I bought this book out of curiosity and saw it referenced on the web a few times in wood working discussion forums. It does have some very interesting projects; however, it seems that it could use some updating on the companies that it references for specialty supplies. Some of the phone numbers are either out of date, or the companies have changed numbers, or even names. This can all be easily remedied if you know a good machinist and/or are willing to dig a little deeper into the net to find exactly what you need. Some of the more interesting projects from my perspective included the thickness sander and lathe. The book also features a nice simple wood working bench made mostly from 2x4's and other stock lumber that has a very interesting vise design that uses pipe clamps. This is a nice book to have in your collection, many of the projects include precise work and could be out of scope for the newbie. That being said, the plans in the book could offer the new wood worker some projects to aspire to. |
