Book Description

October 2003
"A Better Life Ahead" is a light reading, yet intriguing, self-help book that takes a grass roots approach designed to encourage and motivate the reader to improve his or her life. The book was written by someone who knows first hand what can be accomplished when one truly believes in himself as well as the unfortunate consequences that can occur when one doesn’t. (The author wrote the book after his brother committed suicide.)

A Better Life Ahead addresses such topics as: self-confidence, career changes, adult education, overcoming depression, overcoming substance abuse, letting go of the past, coping with stress, etc.

The book includes numerous web sites, phone numbers and addresses that the reader can refer to for additional information.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

A better life is not a destination but rather a continuous journey. As you are reading this book, please keep in mind that it is not the "end all, cure all" for all of life’s problems. Rather this book is intended to provide you with the knowledge, self-confidence and motivation necessary for you to start on your journey towards a better life.

Change doesn’t always come easy. This is especially true when it comes to making the changes necessary to improve your life. Yet, your future and quality of life depend largely on your relentless commitment to making these changes.

I truly hope that you find this book helpful in starting your journey to a better life. A journey that will, hopefully, continue long after you have finished reading this book.

Sincerely,

Mark J Schwartz

From the Inside Flap

Foreword

None of our futures are etched in stone. We have no predetermined cosmic paths to follow. Our futures, and our lives, are like unfinished novels yet to be completed. It is up to us to take control of our lives so that each chapter in our life ends the way that we want it to.

Each chapter in our life will eventually come to an end - regardless of whether or not we make any decisions to improve it. However, through commitment, perseverance and faith in ourselves, not only can we determine how each chapter ends, we can ultimately determine how each chapter is written as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Helping Yourself, October 8, 2004

This review is from: A Better Life Ahead (Paperback)
Has life pitched you so many curve balls that you wonder if you're playing baseball or volleyball? Have you received so many lemons that you could start a lemonade company? Are you searching for a rope that will aid you out of a hole? Well, help is on the way. In Mark Schwartz's book, A BETTER LIFE AHEAD, suggestions for improving the quality of your life are just a few chapters away.

Within the pages of Schwartz's motivational guide are stories, advice, and adages, all intended to help the reader improve their current station in life. What he offers are mere suggestions, nothing more, nothing less. If you are looking for real answers, step-by-step programs, clinical observations, or a deeper understanding of why you are where you are, look somewhere else. (This point is also mentioned in a disclaimer at the beginning of the book.) Most of what is included in A BETTER LIFE AHEAD is common sense, although it is motivational in nature. Schwartz's positive voice saturates the work, and he does offer motivation, just as his subtitle promises. The main point throughout this book is that if you want help, you need to help yourself.

A Better Life Ahead: A Motivational Guide To Living A Better Life by Mark Schwartz is a self-help book to taking control of one's desires and learning how to set out and really try for the career, happiness, and health that everyone deserves. It was his brother's suicide that provided the motivation for Mark Schwartz to write A Better Life Ahead in the hope that others could be thereby persuaded to turn their lives around and avoid his brother's self-inflicted fate. Practical wisdom for dealing with depression, breaking from the past, keeping one's focus, surviving stress and much more fill the pages of this slender (114-pages), direct, meaningful, and strongly recommended self-improvement advice guide.
