5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Complement to a perfect movie
My all-time favorite romantic-comedy. This soundtrack is slightly dated now, but I still enjoy listening to the tunes, evokes definite memories of the 80's. My only complaint with the soundtrack is the missing saxophone interlude that accompanies the film version of 'Arrested by You;' it makes the soundtrack version seem very vanilla. Also, I would have loved it if they...

Better Off Dead is a great movie and one of my favorites.I bought this CD mostly just for the songs One Way Love and Arrested by you- which are two of my favorites on this CD. I was disappointed and surprised that the songs "Everybody Wants Some" and "I'd Like to get to Know you Well" arent on there at all. The songs on the cd are still okay. But its disappointing they...

My only complaint with the soundtrack is the missing saxophone interlude that accompanies the film version of 'Arrested by You;' it makes the soundtrack version seem very vanilla. Also, I would have loved it if they had included Howard Jones' 'Like to Get to Know You Well' (from the car repair scene), but it is what it is. Definitely recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Off Elsewhere?, August 3, 2002

If you're familiar with the movie at all, you may be disappointed to find out that Howard Jones' "Like To Get To Know You Well" is missing, as well as Van Halen's "Everybody Wants Some". Other than these two glaring omissions, it's all here: the end title theme "With One Look" (although it is *not* the same extended version used over the end credits), "Shine" (the music heard when Lane and Monique ski together), and the instrumental track by Rupert Hine during the big K-12 race finale.

Other than the missing tracks, I have one other complaint: There is a LOUD and unpleasant hum that can be heard in the background of track 10 ("Race the K-12") which will make you think your CD player is on the fritz. It's not your player.

All in all, I was a bit disappointed with this CD. I only gave it four stars because I *really* liked the end credits theme "With One Look" and "Shine". If either of those tracks had been missing, I'd have given this CD one or no stars.

(By the way, the recently-released DVD is also something of a disappointment--no extras AT ALL. Not even the theatrical trailers! But that's a gripe for another review... hmmph.)

3.0 out of 5 stars "With One Look" error, July 28, 2003

This site credits "Cy Curmin" next to "With One Look." That's actually a typo. His name is "Cy CurNin," and the song was written by Rupert Hine (accurately noted on the DVD).

As for this CD, I agree with most people here. I own very few DVDs and Better Off Dead is simply one of my favorites. The Howard Jones and Van Halen omissions coupled with poor recordings makes this a disappointing buy. If you see it at a local used record shop, don't hesistate to grab it, it definitely gives you fond memories of the film. But as pure, listening enjoyment, it falls short of the mark. It wasn't until I had taken a couple of the tracks and placed them on my own 80s movie mix that I felt I got my money's worth on this one.

If you like this movie, you'll love the soundtrack. I only wish they had soundbites like "You make a narley run like that and girls will get sterile just looking at you". But, you've got to take what you get. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite soundtrack., January 7, 1999

This album is a fun one to listen to. The movie is my favorite, and it deserves more credit than it recieves. You should listen to this cd, and watch the movie for a fun day. Also, this cd has unknown artists including Rupert Hine, he is a very good writer of songs, slow and fast!!!

Apart from missing Howard Jones and Van Halen the most important piece is missing I'm talking about Muddy Waters Mannish Boy played as the Camaro is finally rolled out of the garage.

3.0 out of 5 stars A solid compilation of some great 80's music.....(3.5 stars), August 3, 2003
This review is from: Better Off Dead (Audio CD)
Ya ya ya, the Howard Jones "Like To Get You Know You Well" isn't there and that is already well said numerous times. What is there is some fantastic 80's music that captures the feel of the movie. I am not a huge 80's but this movie holds a special place in my heart and thus I like the songs that remind me of the movie.

With One Look is your streotypical fun 80's song with overemotional lyrics and synthesizers. You don't want to hear it all the time but when you do it really hits the spot. Shine is one of those amazing "pick you up" songs that is fast enough that I added to my jogging lineup. Arrested By You is another exactly the opposite. A slow heart string puller that is best heard staring into the eyes of the person in bed next to you. The rest are OK to mediocre but the intsrumentals are pretty much like in the movie so if you like them there than you will like them here.

Bottom Line: Not exactly all the songs from the movie but not bad if you like varies 80's music.

1.0 out of 5 stars WHERE'S HOJO? WHERE'S VAN HALEN?, March 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Better Off Dead (Audio CD)
This CD is missing two of the most prominent tracks from the film...I actually felt like I was on Candid Camera when I first held it in my hand, I couldn't believe they weren't included. However, Arrested By You is on there...beautiful song. Anyway, if this CD didn't sell well...we all know why. Yet another musical mystery....(sigh...)
