Editing my review from 4 to 1 stars. The default dictionary for this book is English, which you cannot change in the Kindle with hacking the DRM file, a no no. This eliminates one of the key advantages of having foreign language texts on the Kindle...quick access to translations.

Interesting combination of texts that enable you to actually learn something about Italy while also improving your reading skills. Am giving it a four only, because it has a certain randomness to content that seems a little odd.

The focus is on understanding the key meaning of the text without necessarily understanding every word of the text--and in some cases gleaning the meaning from the text(as is appropriate). There are vocabulary lists provided at the end of the readings...with some vocab from the reading, but much more that represent useful vocabulary for the subject (for instance a page plus of cooking terms associated with a couple of recipes). The vocabulary also includes idiomatic expressions linked to the subject as well.

There are also grammar drills with answers in the back, and these drills are associated with refresher grammar lessons in each section. The grammar sections are good, but I found that to really reenforce what was covered I needed to go back to a true grammar book.

I have this book in paperback, but am repurchasing in Kindle version so I can link to my Kindle Italian dictionary more easily.

It seems designed for serious students in advanced course work and should find useful application. It was not intended for light reading.
