An 80's Classic All the Way!,
By "jhcool424" (Lomita, California USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Better Than Heaven (Audio CD)
This fast-paced, upbeat album is a great pick me up anytime. The beats and instrumentations are just what 80's pop was all about. Listening to this album takes me back to the summer of 1986 when I used hear "Two Of Hearts" all the time . Here's a bit of nostalgia, who remembers when Stacey sang both "Two Of Hearts" and "We Connect" on two different episodes of "The Facts Of Life"? I'll take this album any day over the terrible sounds of what are known as pop music of today. If you want some light, fun, easy listening that will take you back, buy this album because you won't regret it.

Good first effort of dance pop,
By Preston (nc) - See all my reviews

Stacey Q's first album from 1986 was a fun first effort of dance pop. I didn't expect Two of Hearts to be 7 minutes long! I'm so used to hearing the single version that they played so much on the radio and placed on many compilation albums. I was thinking, the usual 3:56 song, next song, and so forth. It's so creatively done, with some sexy vibes within it. At times, Stacey reminds you of Madonna in terms of the dance tracks and the rhythms. The ballads on here are nice. And you have to credit the SSQ band for playing the music on here, loads of aggressive and dynamic rhythms and landscapes. Besides Two of Hearts, other standouts are We Connect, Love of Desire, the catchy Don't Break My Heart, and Dancing Nowhere. Back in 1986, people would say--She won't be talked about 20 years from now, nor that hit single. But in 2006, I still listen and hear echoes of Two of Hearts and some of the other album's songs. It's not about looking back or being retro, it's about how they sound today in 2006. The Internet, Amazon and other sources have been helpful in recalling this album's success and I am here to say that I still love these songs!

This bubbleheaded goddess is the Queen of Dance,

Who could not instantly fall in love with the beautiful and talanted Stacey Q? She is the ultimate free spirit wrapped in a crown of blond hair. With a silly giggle or questioning look, Stacey Q would have you eating out of her hand. She may be a ditz, but her sexual energy is as bright as an ever lasting nova.
1. Two of Hearts - Along with Toni Basil's 'Micky', this is a masterpiece. Listen as she yearns and longs for you "I need you! I need you!" 2. We Connect - Another smash hit that survived the wrath of time. Miss Q proves that she is more than a one hit wonder and can belt out the sass and shake that a55. 3. Insecurity - Here she defines the rules again and takes pop where it has never been before, or since. Her voice is one of an angel and I fall to my knees and cry whenever I hear it. This song is on a 'cassingle' I have and never leaves my IROC. 4. Better Than Heaven - The title of this song is the only way to describe the song. Stacey Q is God's gift to music and her voice could melt the heart of Satan himself. I never want to live in a world where Miss Q is respected as the artist she is. 5. Don't Let Me Down - No, this is not a cover of the same song found on Twisted Sister 'Stay Hungry' album. This is a love song that is great to make love to. Stacey Q is the fantasy of many a man, and when her voice seduces the woman in your life, you have the best. 6. Music Out of Bounds - I once played this for seven straight hours and did the 'running man' dance. No one knew and no one watched, but I just had to do it so I can say I did. I'd do it again too, because this is the ultimate dance song and the 'running man' is the ultimate dance. 7. Love or Desire - Well if she asking me about how I feel about her, it's both. Same with every other man on the planet. 8. Don't Break My Heart - Here Stacey once again destroys all bounds and proves that just because there is a twinkle in her eye doesn't mean she can't feel the same emotions of us mere mortals. Any man would walk through fire and broken glass to be with her, so this song may be a bit unbelievable. 9. He Doesn't Understand - Another love song that touches the heart like a dagger. Oh Miss Q, I love you. I'd understand anything you tell me and will forever worship you. 10. Dancing Nowhere - A great way to end the album. It leaves the listener begging and pleading for more. Now that you have this collection, it's time to go back and find her albums. To celebrate her collection is to celebrate life, love, and happiness. Stacey Q is the greatest of all dance queens and the proof is here. Buy this album and see how beautiful life can really be.

Most underappreciated artist of our time.,

First off, to let you know, some of my favorite musicians are Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, Donovan, Tom Waits, and so on. But no album has changed my life more than Stacey Q. Stacey Q's Better Than Heaven is definitely true t it's title. The songwriting, arrangement, and production, is all genius. It's too bad not too many people are familiar with her. She has influenced me tremendously, and upon hearing this landmark recording, you will see what I mean. Stacey, we need a comeback!

This album is the epitome of twirly 80's dance pop, right up there with Bananarama's "WOW" and Madonna's "You Can Dance." Every track is a bouncy cloud of synth pops, gurgles, and whirrs, laced with Stacey's breathy, melancholy-tinged purrs and electrified chirps. Stacey herself wrote and co- produced the bulk of her material. The sound is all diaphanous mini-skirts, plastic lips, curling irons, and aqua colored inflatable palm-trees. Pop it in the cd player and take a guilt-free trip, not to 1986, but to what the future looked like from there!

Stacey Q...where to begin? I, like many of you, heard "Two of Hearts" on the radio one day, and I was mesmerized by the utter silliness but complete (sexual) vivacity that the song possesses. I can't help but laugh and smile and bob my head as I listen to this ridiculously energetic, lusty track that could have been produced only in the '80s. I was thrilled to discover that this album has a SEVEN minute extended dance version of this track on it--it's even more laughable than the single. Here's a nice quote: "Hot, baby/You bring new meaning to the word/Delicious!" The other songs are just as silly, campy, and danceable as the hit. I can't stress "silly" enough. The lyrics are uproarously hilarious if you actually listen to them. I especially like the beginning of "Insecurity" and the "rap" part of "Music Out of Bounds." I won't go through all the songs--sometimes they are really difficult to distinguish from one another--but I must say BETTER THAN HEAVEN has all the catchy, heavily synthesized, and completely superficial '80s dance songs you could possibly want. Well, maybe not, but, mon Dieu, these songs are catchy! And who could resist Stacey Q? Don't just sit there at your computer: order BETTER THAN HEAVEN and start "dancing nowhere."

This cd is one of the best of the eighties. Every song is energetic and powerful, especially Two of Hearts, which is one of the best love songs I have ever heard. The great rhythms, combined with stacey's sultry voice, makes this cd a classic.

This is/was a brilliant 'cassette' (in those days). I would listen to this until the ribbon almost tore. It's still good music even today although you can certainly tell its age. Who knows where she has ended up but it would be interesting to hear her sound and see her look in 2005. The best songs on this album are We Connect and Better Than Heaven. I think that Better Than Heaven would be a terrific song for someone to remake today. I'm sure it would be a hit, because this music is boppy and catchy and fun.

The leading single of this superb dance labum say it all, "Two Of Hearts" although mock and underrated, is one of the most infectuos dance track of the mid-80's, many compare Miss Q to be tryin' to be Madonna, but wassup with that?, sorry but the style was that!, Madonna is extremely talented, but so this single, has such classic sound to it, although is already synth related and some may said it sounds dated, this song stands for the classic of it all, the rest of the Better Than Heaven album is a POP album of the 80's that was produced in the best standard by those days, and tries hard to keep with the audience, failin at sometimes, but overall offering a memorable record of dancefloors. The Highlights of this record are "Two Of Hearts", "We Connect" and "Dancing Nowhere".

Stacey Q: Dance-Pop music at it's best!!!!!,

Stacey Q is the most unappreciated artist of the 1980's up until today. Some say that her girlish approach is very annoying, but I find it rather appealing. At least she was being real to herself, and that she had confidence. This is a very good album. It made it to #46 on the R&b/Hip Hop charts, and to #102 on the billboards. :(1)Two of hearts- good song.Made it to #3 on the billboard charts. Kinda long though as it approaches 7 minutes. Cute girley vocals. But I wish that the radio single version was on here instead. 2)We Connect- a fast pace song that made it to the top 40. 3)Insecurity- nice song. I can identify to this song. Made it to #1 on the Dance Charts. Cute lyrics, reminds me of Madonna. 4)Better Than Heaven- a sweet ode to love. 5)Don't let me down- a nice slow ballad. Very nice and sweet to dance to. 6)Music out of bounds- a dance song very electronic though. Made it to #19 on the Dance Music Sales. 7)Love or desire- an ok song. Sounds like somewhat a spanish synth. 8)Don't break my heart- a nice song back from the 80's. Very night-like song, Don't know why but that's what I envision when I hear it every time. 9)He doesn't understand- Very lulling the song. This is one of my favorite songs by Stacey Q. Makes you wanna dance. 10) Dancing nowhere- very rocky-like lol. Another early Madonna reminicent. **Don't know how true this is, but I heard that she has a new song coming out, off her new album "Stardust". Listen to the airwaves for it and vote her #1 like she should be!!!!! **A lifetime Fan :) |
