It Smokes,
By A Customer
This review is from: Better Than a Stick in the Eye (Audio CD)
I first heard this years ago and it definitely SMOKES. this band rules and this CD is by far one of their best. I think they should hurry up and reissue it soon to give others a chance to hear what i've heard.

This album upon my first listen did disappoint me. I was expecting an album as rocking to cut my teeth on as "If you swear you'll catch no fish..." with the same sensibilities. Their previous LP left me thirsty for more. Instead what I got was tighter song structures and a more mature sound from this five piece from Edmonton. In post reflection I was still young when this came out and I was only looking for speed in music. It was their time to grow within sound and with this release the band reached a very high peak. Everyone knows this was the last full on studio LP from the early days. A "Daily Book of Fun Facts" piece. Depending on what member in the band you ask to date SNFU had stood for three different little common phrases. Number one-S.N.A.F.U. (Situation Normal All F**ked Up) was the original name but they dropped the A as people kept circling the A and this annoyed them a bit according to an old Chi Pig interview. Number two-S.N.F.U. (Society's Not For You) Only heard of once in a different MRR or Flipside interview. and Number three-S.N.F.U. (Society's No F**king Use) is the final true meaning.

well back in 1989 this was definatlely my album of the year.a boomblastic rush of energy and fun.the best band to come out of canada since neil young!!with the screams and wails of mr chi pig and the massive geetar off kilter energy infused noise of the the brothers belke.the pounding bass throbs of curt and the persice variation of ted simm on drums.the funny thing it sounds this great and i still have it on record!!as all snfu albums (witch all have something to offer )there are the songs and lyrics that you wonder where they hell did they come up with those songs about futon.gi joe.mall that eats peoplepostmans pet peeve ect.and the bizzare cover songs.so if you are out here looking for something that well either ... your pants with excitement or take a look in the past and see what real fun/punk/hardcore is all about here is your ticket to ride better then a stick in the eye.........warning this album is air guitar fist banging slam skating causing maximus.......

Probably their heaviest album, also one of heir best. I wore out my first copy.If you like SNFU, do yourself a favor and find the Wheat Chiefs (SNFU without Chi Pig) - you won't be disappointed. |
