Excellent!!!!!,

When I first heard this cd I was amazed. I didn't think that they'd be this good. I like that I can listen to a song without the bad language and that it meant something. MOst people don't have that. This is christian music, not music that says its christian and really isn't. I like that it has a newer age flow. I loved this cd!

Hard Hitting Realistic Christian Rock Music,
By "uriahtestament" (Washington Court House, Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Better Than This (Audio CD)
I see why they call themselves the Normals. So often in Christendom there is a language that is spoken that is not true. We deny that we sin, we deny that we are human and we deny that we ever have a problem. Not these guys they say what they feel in their songs. I have great respect for this group. It helps to see that others are struggling with the same issues that I am in everyday life. Musically I would call them an alternative rock band. If you like Switchfoot's newest album you would like the Normals. They have a classic rock feel to them also. Real hard to explain but lyrically they hit a home run. I heard the song Everything and it just blew my mind. Check it out this is a great CD and a great group.

Can't Get Much Better Than This,
By "chadanddenise" (Upstate, NY US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Better Than This (Audio CD)
These guys are great - musically and as "normal" people. The lyrics on Everything always make me stop what I'm doing and listen, really listen - they are true to life. I had the opportunity to run into The Normals a few times and they really do make an effort to reach out to people - they don't just sing about it. Better Than This and Song and Dance are catchy and fast. Running from the Sun is a great "driving" song. Everyone can relate to I Need You - you find yourself singing it right away. One of my favorites on the album is actually Daddy's Girl, it doesn't seem to match the rest of the album, although it's another "story song" like Everything, it doesn't feature Andy's vocals as warmly - but I like the emotion in it. Prepare for quirky lyrics ("It's like walking on ice in socks" - What I Cannot Earn), affirming subjects and incredible guitars. I can't stop listening to Andy, Mark and Clayton!

Not So Normal,
By Kelli (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Better Than This (Audio CD)
This rates among my top 5 favorite CDs(Nothing is Sound, Sea of Faces, Better Than This, Exit East, Jesus Freak). It has a strong acoustic rock feel. I've never listened to a CD like it. Their definitely not normal. The best track in my opinion is 6: I need you. Whatever the price, I reccomend that you by this CD, you won't regret it. Music just doesn't get any "Better Than This".

Normal yet Awesomely Appealing,
By Nathan Miller (Castleton, VT USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Better Than This (Audio CD)
A peculiar thing is that I popped this cd into my player the other day and let the sonic waves of "everything" and "someone to believe" and "if tomorrow was forever" roll over me like the warm embrace from an old friend. And that's exactly what this music is, a warm ambrace. From God. So, can you imagine how overjoyed I am to find out they have a new album out. I was attempting Handel's "Messiah." In any case, the normals have put out a smashing album full of intense and beautiful harmonies, candid lyrics, and delightful emotive pop. My kind of music. Why this album has been so overlooked, I do not know. I thought it was excellent from the beginning, and I certainly think that Osenga's vocals are already as beautiful as they could be. I can't wait to immerse myself in the new album. This is hardly a normal debut.

Fresh Lyrics: a new approach to spreading the message of God,
By A Customer
This review is from: Better Than This (Audio CD)
I love this band! They have the humility, energy and ability to raise the standard of Christian Music. The CD is incredible with lyrics that aren't cheesy and still make you think. Apron Full of Stains is a great example of the fresh new approach to sharing faith. Not only does the music rock (Innovative guitar sound by Marc, Clayton kicking on the bass, and Andy completing the package with incredible vocals), the musicians are people that are worth knowing. I was introduced to Andy before a concert by my friend Chris Beaty and didn't even realize he was in the band until I saw him singing. These are great guys and are examples to those in the industry and all of their fans. The Normals are just that. Normal and wonderful.

Not Your Normal Album,
By Adam Bradford (Admiral79@aol.com) (Towanda, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Better Than This (Audio CD)
You really can't find anything better than this album. This group of Christian rockers from Normal, IL are phenominal. Led by vocalist Andy Osenga The Normals have put together one of the best albums I've ever heard with 11 very solid tracks. Songs range from their hit single "Everything" to a song about the guitarist's pet duck who sadly passed away ("What's Ailing Norman?"). The lead singer of Sixpence None the Richer, Leigh Nash, also makes a appearance on "If Tomorrow Was Forever." Make sure you check out this fast rising Christian group. This album will truly make you feel closer to God, body and soul.

I'm a big fan of Christian music, and I have many friends who listen to it as well. however, not many of those friends have heard the Normals. Just because they are not "big time" doesn't mean they don't rock! These guys have awesome lyrics, and their music is really cool too. they have songs to pump you up, and songs that will make you sit and examine yourself spiritually. They have a unique style that i think many people would like regardless of their religious preferences. Basically what i'm saying is that you won't be dissapointed after purchasing this one! I'm also looking forward to the new album they have coming out.

The Normals first(?) release is one awesome collection. I think I listen to it every other day--each time it gives new insights into modern Christian living. The best one is IMO "Song & Dance," in that we're all empty, 'til filled with Christ. Normals, give your public more, please!
