After listening to Better Times Will Come. I now have three favourites

Diana Jones makes me sing. I don't listen to lots of country music albums but if they all wrote songs, played and sang as she does, I would listen to a lot more. Its just such a joy to play this CD, no matter how many times I hear it. Even better still, this is one of those rare albums that everyone so far likes. I really look forward to her third album and wish I could see her live. Thank you Diana.

My husband and I went to a neighorhood concert to see this artist and we were pleasantly surprised at the depth of feeling she brings to her craft. I was especially taken in by a particular song that was found on this album that Joan Baez recorded and was nominated for a grammy. It's a song about a miner who knows he will die soon. He writes a letter to his wife. It is so moving. I believe she put to music the actual letter that was written to his wife! Wow, the tears just flowed.

I bought this recording based on a review of a live performance in the NY Times. The music on this disc is good, in small doses. After listening to it straight through, twice over a couple of days, I was annoyed by an impression of "sameness" in the songs. Same emotional tone, same style of harmonies, same mix of sound in the background. Her voice is good for the syle of folk music she is working toward--old-fashioned, hill country sound, mixed with lyrics that speak to current events.
But one other caveat. This disc did not like my Apple Pro computer. It acted like there was some kind of security on it that would not let it play in that machine. It would sit in the computer disc drive, spin for a while, then eject, with no action on my part, and nothing coming up on the computer screen. It did play just fine in my top-loading boom box. |
