This beautiful cookbook is about toast…but really so much more. It’s about the art and presence of serving, eating and enjoying such a simple and flavorful childhood memory.
To me, toast represents something comforting and always there when you need it. My Grandma Barbra would always serve my scrambled eggs on toast when I was little, and at first I was repulsed to be quite honest. But from the first bite, I was hooked. Her secret? Serve on toast and sprinkle with “monkey dust” (her name for “Nature’s Seasoning” seasoning creation from McCormick). On rough days, or when I wish for childhood again, I still make her scrambled egg and “money dust” toast.
Recipes that fill this book are, “Avocado Classic” (page 16), “Togarashi Egg Salad” (page 23), “Madagascar Banana” (page 33), “Herbed Goat Cheese and Grilled Vegetables” (page 57), “Zingy White Beans and Tomatoes” (page 71), “Thai Crab and Cucumber” (page 91), “Bay Scallops and Pear-Onion Jam” (page 99), “French Onion Toast” (page 104), “Lobster Carbonara” (page 112), “Spinach and Sweet Pea” (page 124), “Mushroom Hunks” (page 141) and “Cauliflower Melts” (page 153).
Yes – all of these…on toast! Genius!? Yes…genius.
The photographs in this book are beautiful too, which combine with the recipes, story and whole concept to create a perfectly delightful cookbook.
I highly recommend this book to everyone you know who loves good food, toast, delicious flavors and flavor combinations that have to be tasted to believe.
I’m off to have toast again for dinner… After this book, I have a feeling that you will be having “toast” a lot for dinner too.
We are not even always talking about toaster toast. This book shares how to make grilled bread and oven toast, too! The photos are perfect! And...most of the time the topping ingredients are in your pantry...
Sardines, beans, olive oil, tuna, raisins...just add some cheeses and bread and you have lunch or dinner!
I love this book!
