This book blew me away. How seriously can you take a book that’s about toast!? The answer…VERY seriously, and I honestly think I’m in love with Jill Donenfeld.

This beautiful cookbook is about toast…but really so much more. It’s about the art and presence of serving, eating and enjoying such a simple and flavorful childhood memory.

To me, toast represents something comforting and always there when you need it. My Grandma Barbra would always serve my scrambled eggs on toast when I was little, and at first I was repulsed to be quite honest. But from the first bite, I was hooked. Her secret? Serve on toast and sprinkle with “monkey dust” (her name for “Nature’s Seasoning” seasoning creation from McCormick). On rough days, or when I wish for childhood again, I still make her scrambled egg and “money dust” toast.

This one is WELL worth taking the time to review. Her flavor combinations are awesome: some tried and true -- winter squash and caramelized onions along with many very unique flavorful combinations that never occurred to me --smoked salmon, ricotta, & cucumber. In addition to recipes that could easily be salads or pasta toppings, she lists several combinations of flavors for staples like avocados, salmon, ricotta, etc. The cookbook is almost devoid of meat but with options for seafood eaters (pescetarians.)

What an amazingly beautiful lovely book for all of us toast addicts! My fave food in this entire world is toast. This book gives me so many amazing toast options...toppings...additions...sides...and unique ways to eat toast!
We are not even always talking about toaster toast. This book shares how to make grilled bread and oven toast, too! The photos are perfect! And...most of the time the topping ingredients are in your pantry...
Sardines, beans, olive oil, tuna, raisins...just add some cheeses and bread and you have lunch or dinner!

So beautifully shot and creatively put together! I loved the hand written notes scattered throughout the book!! My daughter just recently got engaged and we threw her a "Let's Toast!" brunch. We recreated toasts from Jill's cookbook and served some bubbly...huge hit! Highly recommend this book to anyone!

This book is just the best! Living in Paris and I have to say, haven't came accross this type of book before. it's simple, yummy, fun and easy to make for anyone who loves food but is useless in the kitchen. Very smart move and everyone love toasts. Photos are super cool too. YOU have to get it NOW before it's sold out.

I don't eat a lot of bread per se but this book is great inspiration to put the toppings on other foods. I like to top pancakes and polenta with savory toppings. Everything doesn't have to be sweet!

I discovered the brilliance of cookbook author and culinary maven, Jill Donenfeld, through her last tome, "Party Like a Culinista." In what was probably my most recent Amazon review, I advised readers to place that work in their "dank bank" (trademark still pending...). If that was a must-deposit, then this one is a bet-the-farm. Jill writes like she is your cooler, wiser best friend. Recipes, pictures, and paragraphs are annotated with handwritten messages that add a layer of warmth and humor. You get a glimpse of how someone who has a black-belt in entertaining can make it look like an effortless exercise. This is how to be a great host, a great neighbor, and a great friend rolled into one. This is how to make simple yet complex and delicious snacks for yourself, your lovers, and your coworkers (maybe all at the same party!). This is a pathway to a life lived well.

I learned of this book while watching Jill on FoxNews NY. I have read many other cookbooks, but I'm not a professional cook. This presents the dishes as if she is reading my mind, telling me insider secrets, as if she is my best friend. It is rare to find any book, and especially a cookbook as I found this: fun to read and inspiring to make the dishes. I found I wanted to make most of the "toast" in here because the techniques were just easy and simple enough and not that time consuming. The toasts sounded yummy with all sorts of ideas I never thought of! The ingredients are fairly common but they seem to work better on toast! So I have now made many of them. The flavors and combinations are even better than they sounded. I'm delighted and fully satisfied!
