5.0 out of 5 stars (4.5 Stars) Just As Good As Its Predecessor!, January 27, 2009
This review is from: Better on Top (Paperback)
Toni Lyons is a single mother with a 5 year old daughter named Twyla who has autism. She owns her own auto repair business, but she's still a little strapped for cash. When her best friend Eileen asks her to be a tester of her new matchmaking website Orchid Soul, she's a little hesitant. But when she finds out she can make some extra money, she jumps at the chance to become a tester for the site. Toni thinks nothing of it, only that it's a job and she could use the cash since Dan (her baby daddy) was no longer in the picture. She will soon learn that Orchid Soul will change her life drastically.

Nick Benson is coming home from war. After his fiancé was killed in the war, all he wants to do is go home to his parent's house. Unbeknownst to him, the house is not the way he remembered it. Since his mother has Alzheimer's and his dad is unable to care for her, they move into an assisted living residence and leave the house to Nick. Nick soon finds out the single family home has been made into a duplex and he starts to renovate it. During the renovation, he meets his neighbor Toni. Being a computer programmer, Eileen also asked him to be a tester for Orchid Soul. During a computer glitch, Nick and Toni become a match on the website. They soon find out each other's fantasies. Nick is no longer the ladies man he used to be. Toni wants a man to take care of her, even though she puts up this stubborn act that she needs no one. The wall that separates their two households soon comes down, and so does the barriers around Toni's heart. Things heat up between the neighbors...more than Toni was willing to participate in.

Better On Top, the sequel to Up All Night, proves to be just as good as the first book. This time the book focuses on the two characters Toni & Nick. You will see how the author gives you just enough details for you to understand how Toni does not want to get involved with anyone right now. She does the same with Nick. She shows you how Nick has changed from being nicknamed "The Reverend," to just becoming plan old Nick, someone who's looking for love and companionship. This story has some very, very steamy scenes that occur between Nick and Toni. But you also see how nurturing he is with Toni's autistic daughter Twyla. Because of this, Toni's wall around her heart starts to crumble. I enjoyed this book, as well as the first one. Delilah Dawson has done it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great follow up to the Orchid Soul series..., January 24, 2010

I loved this book a million times more than "Up all night" (the first book in the series). This book was more of a romance to me, where I felt the first one was strictly sexual. I really didn't think I'd like this book based on the description which is why it took me so long to purchase it. The soldier home from war mixed with the single mom raising an autistic child seemed like it would be too many conflicts that would take away from the romance but they added depth to the main characters and helped the reader understand why they would react to certain things in the ways that they did. I can't wait for the 3rd book in the series to come out.

5.0 out of 5 stars 100% Great Read!, May 8, 2009
This review is from: Better on Top (Paperback)
This is Delilah's best book ever (and I have read them all)! Ms. Dawson painted a romantic story full of multiple shades of love. Erotic? Yes! But the love stories between Nick & Toni; Toni & Twyla; and Nick & his Parents really transcended simply a hot and steamy romantic read. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves to read about real heartbreaks in life; real inner strength; real issues that help to shape who we are; and real soul satisfying LOVE! I'm not exaggerating...I am simply convinced that this book is fabulous! Very well done, Ms. Dawson!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Heat is On, April 30, 2009

Toni Lyons is no stranger to hard work and determination. Abandoned by her high school sweetheart after the birth of their daughter, Toni is left alone to raise their autistic daughter, Twyla. Hurt and devastated by the abandonment, Toni submerges her life around giving love and care to the special needs of Twyla, and keeping her business, a car maintenance service afloat. There's no room for any other relationships in her life, however, a change is in the midst.

Nicholas Benson returns home from the war to find that his parents turned their home into a duplex. He will live in the vacant half of the house and Toni leases the other half of the house. Nick is fighting his own demons, grieving the death of his girlfriend who also served in the military. Nick begins renovating the house when he realizes he has to tear down the wall that separates him from Toni. However, from the sexual attraction that ignites in them, more than walls will come tumbling down.

Eileen, a mutual friend of both Nick and Toni, starts an online erotic-fantasy matchmaking website, Orchid Soul, and since Nick is a computer programmer, she asks him to help with any glitches. Eileen asks Toni to become a member of the site and test its matchmaking abilities. However, the site gets a major glitch and Nick and Toni are matched as an erotic-fantasy couple, and soon their nights are filled with hot steamy sex.

BETTER ON TOP, is a fast-paced, romantic, sensual read. The story has a smooth flow, the subplot is well incorporated, and the hot and steamy sex scenes will blow your mind. The characters are well-rounded and believable. I am looking forward to reading more of Dawson's books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too Short, March 30, 2009

Delilah did another great job with another Orchid Soul matchmaking malfuntion. Nick and Toni's story was trimmed down on the erotic fantasies and focused on finding love, forgivness and learning to deal with an autistic child and a parents alzheimer's. It was still hot and I highly, highly recommend. I was very disappointed that this was a quick read, especially since they didn't get to the fantasy about the closet! Just didn't want it to end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delilah Dawson does it again!!!, February 5, 2009
This review is from: Better on Top (Paperback)
Another hot one from Delilah Dawson! I read it one day, well one night (so maybe i was late to work the next day they don't need to know why). LOL! This is a great book two for the Orchid Soul trilogy. I can't wait for the final book. I'm confused though. Did the names change from book one? I thought Toni's name was Rusty in Up all Night??? Nickname maybe!? Anyway, Delilah Dawson is one of my favorite authors and Better on Top is worth a read or in my case, re-read!

The second story in the Orchid Soul books Toni & Nick burn up the pages with steamy, hot, erotic loving and the 'paint scene' oh my goodness you just have to buy this book to read it. Toni, a single mother shares a duplex with Nick, a veteran who is mourning his fiancee'. Toni puts a hole in the wall that separates them and once the walls come tumbling down Nick & Toni start tumbling in bed. This is the second story the first one "Up All Night" is an excellent read as well. I loved both stories!!! Of course if Delilah wrote it you know it's worth every penny!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The way to a woman's heart is: being a chef, a handyman and a lover!, January 28, 2009
This review is from: Better on Top (Paperback)
Ms. Dawson does it again! I have been following this author for awhile and she keeps getting better and better. This story starts up right from the beginning - Toni encounters Nick 'Reverend' Benson - he is called 'Reverend' because the way he makes women scream out in bed!!! WELL that's an excellent start. Nick has so much of what a single mom needs: a good cook, a handy man, independent, financially secure and sexually sensuous! = A KEEPER! Where can I get me a Nick! Ms. Dawson also brings out other serious topics of the single mom - a disabled child, finances and of course - the returning father = GREAT READ DON'T MISS THIS ONE!!! Nick seduces Toni through food - who says the way to one's heart is through food only applies to men? With every cup of coffee, Nick breaks down a little bit more of Toni's defense...Wow!

5.0 out of 5 stars sexual fantasy testers falling in love, January 24, 2009
This review is from: Better on Top (Paperback)
Single mom Toni Lyons struggles with raising her five years old autistic daughter Twyla. As a "solid" favor for her friend Eileen as well was making money, the auto mechanic reluctantly agrees to anonymously "test" her new matchmaking web site, Orchid Soul.

Her landlord in the converted duplex, Nick Benson has returned from a harrowing experience in the military. Prior to leaving home on the deployment, he was known as the Reverend for being the top player; now he has no interest in playing since a personal death in the war zone has left him grieving. He spends much of his time renovating his house. He is attracted to his renter and very patient with her offspring. Eileen convinces him as a solid to her to test her new erotic matchmaking site.

Due to his manipulations, Orchid Soul matches up the two neighbors as their sexual fantasies go together. However, she is hesitant as she was scorched once before when she trusted a man with her heart while he takes it slow knowing she and Twyla belong with him, but fearing she will discover his hacking chicanery and have one more reason to distrust men.

The second Orchid Soul romance (see UP ALL NIGHT; not read by me) is an engaging contemporary as the sexual fantasy program fails (with some human assistance) yet achieves the strategic goal of the website. The lead couple is a terrific pairing, but it is the relationship between Twyla and Nick that makes the story line fulfilling. Fans will enjoy Delilah Dawson's delightful duet as testers falling in love.
