Better Than Bullion - Mushroom makes a flavorful rub for vegetables and meats that you are roasting. All by itself, or with the usual herbs you use in dry rub. Just remember, this stock is salted. It can enrich salad dressings too. Use it as you would an herb to season all sorts of dishes.
*Instead of salt: Substitute 1 Tbs Better Than Bouillon(tm) for 1 tsp salt.
*For reduced-fat wok cooking: Substitute ratio of 2 tsp Better Than Bouillon(tm) per cup water for the oil.
*For simple gravies: Make a roux of 2 Tbs flour and 2 Tbs butter; add 2 cups broth (2 tsp Better Than Bouillon(tm) Base dissolved in 2 cups hot water). Add meat juices if available. Season with pepper to taste.
*For a magnificent homestyle meatloaf: Add 1 rounded tsp Better Than Bouillon(tm) Beef(or Mushroom)Base for each pound of your favorite meatloaf recipe. Simply dissolve Better Than Bouillon(tm) Base into the egg mixture during preparation. Note: Better Than Bouillon(tm) replaces the salt!
*For world champion chicken patties and chicken balls: Add 1 rounded tsp Better Than Bouillon(tm) Chicken Base to each pound of your outdoor bar­becue chicken burgers or Italian chicken meatballs. Dissolve Better Than Bouillon(tm) Chicken Base into the water and egg mixture during preparation.
*For McDonald's flavored french fries: Soak raw, sliced potatoes in 2 Tbs Better Than Bouillon(tm) Beef Base dissolved in 2 qts chilled water overnight. Be sure to dry potatoes thoroughly before frying.

This item has been a staple in my pantry for at least two years. As a vegatarian, I find that many foods lack flavor. Many stocks are overly salty and seem to ruin my dishes. This stock however is excellent and lasts seemingly forever. I don't think it is possible to be dissappointed in this stock.

Okay, I love this stuff; it's great to use in numerous dishes as a flavor enhancer. So, why am I writing this review? Because some people on this site like to rant and rave about a product technically having MSG. For the record and I have six different flavors of this product, there is no mention of this product being MSG free on any of the packaging. Okay? So, stop giving bad reviews to this product because you claim they advertise as MSG free. They do not do that, and you are spreading lies. You know who you are! Stop giving this product bad reviews for made up reasons. Read the label!

I rely on "Better Than Bouillon" bases. I can use the exact amount I need without cutting up hard cubes. The flavor is consistent throughout the base and does not settle out--it will never separate the flavor from the salt from the liquid and fat; not even when left on the refrigerator shelf for months and months. That is important to me. The base is very easy to spoon out; it doesn't harden in the cold of the frig.

The bases are rich in flavor, have a slightly sweet taste, and contain less salt than most bouillon cubes. This mushroom base is no exception: It has a deep, complex and authentic mushroom flavor.

I keep several of the flavors in my frig at one time: The jars are short and compact and I can stack them if I keep them out of high traffic areas. It would be nice if they were designed to be truly "stack-able", with a depression in the lid or bottom, then I could keep them closer to the front of the frig.

I use Better than Bouillon bases as flavor enhancements in everything I cook that has a liquid in it. I'll never make rice with just plain water again! Poach your eggs in broth made from it! Anywhere broth is called for I add a shot of this wonderful stuff. I have every flavor in my kitchen cabinet. I buy the giant jars when I find them. Start with small quantities and cut down on the salt you add separately as this is quite salty, especially the mushroom base. I drink it when sick. It is my manna.

The aroma of this mushroom base is absolutely wonderful -- but I would not be comfortable using what we ordered. The seal of the jar was popped, and much of the contents leaked all over the inside of the box, including on the other items in the shipment. Since the label on the jar says to refrigerate after opening, this one was a no-go.

So I ordered another jar from a different seller who has always been great, thinking the first jar was not typical. Again, though, the jar leaked, even with 2-day shipping. The 97 degree temperature appears to be the culprit.

I wish the packaging weren't so susceptible to the heat; no other food items our family has ordered have been. But when summer is over, we definitely will reorder. The mushroom base really does smell fantastic!
