A must read for anyone taking pictures of children,
By
This review is from: The BetterPhoto Guide to Photographing Children (Paperback)
I have 3 boys and also have just started my own business as a portrait photographer. While I did know some of what was in the book I picked up alot of great tips to make my job easier. Now I enjoy photographing my children and clients and also come away with some shots that I would have never thought to get without the ideas in this book. The only reason I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5 was because I would have liked to have seen examples of what not to do. Before and after type of shots. If you take pictures of kids get this book! You won't be sorry! :~)

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The BetterPhoto Guide to Photographing Children (Paperback)
This book is simply too basic. I regret I bought it, as the other book that I bought is much more detailed and not so general. Its good for those who just started making photos, but for those that know what is shutter speed and aperture its really too primitive.

Excellent book for the amateur photographer,

When it comes to photography, people (especially children) are my weak spot. I have struggled and struggled to create shots that are worth showing to the public. When I found that Jim Moitke had released a book on photographing children, i immediately had to own it. The book was just what I needed. Throughout the book, Jim gives great tips on how to capture children's images in a thoughtful, well-organized way. There are simple things like reminding the photographer that patience is a must (which is a good reminder for me), to actual technical guidance for the right lighting and posing. I especially like that all the photos have their "specs" so one can study what each photographer (not just Jim) did to create their masterpiece. Along the same lines, he also uses pictures from top photographers at [...] I thought this was a bonus, for it let you see a variety of captures, finding ones that fit your style. If you're a beginner, amateur or someone who just generally struggles capturing children at their finest (and I have 2 of them), then I strongly suggest that you purchase this book.

Jim Miotke's book on Photgraphing Children,
This review is from: The BetterPhoto Guide to Photographing Children (Paperback)
The BetterPhoto Guide to Photographing Children--Thank you for this book! The step-by-step lessons are wonderful. I have to admit, getting on the children's level while photographing is a great "tool!" Even though it took a while to get back up, the photographs were outstanding. "The power of the perfect eye contact" is so important. I was so pleased that I could demonstrate this and have a great outcome with the pictures. Thank you for the fantastic information.

A Must Have,

This review is from: The BetterPhoto Guide to Photographing Children (Paperback)
I purchased this book when it first came out and can honestly say that it is the best book on children photography that I have read. I am almost finished with the book and love the flow and the practical advice given in the book. It is very easy to follow and the assignments have encouraged me to get out and start taking pictures of kids. The tips on flash, setting up home "studios", paying attention to backgrounds, posing and basically how to make connections with the children have all been invaluable. I would recommend this book not only to parents that want to end up with better pictures of their kids, but also to photographers that want to gain experience in working with kids.

Awesome and easy to follow!!!,
This review is from: The BetterPhoto Guide to Photographing Children (Paperback)
For me this book is the best on the market. I have been doing adult portraits and landscapes for a reason; they are much easier to take than children. However this book by Jim Miotke, a professional photographer and photography teacher at [...] has given me the insight and confidence to begin taking portraits of children. In fact I have already started with my grandchildren. The BetterPhoto Guide to Photographing Children is full of excellent advice on working with children. I have no regrets in purchasing this book! If you want to take pictures of children and want to learn with an easy to follow teacher, than this is the photography book for you! Awesome book one I will keep in my library for other family members to use...... Ritajane
