Very well manufactured.

The included dial indicator has a resolution and margin of error of .001in, which is more than accurate enough for safe and precise alignment of woodworking machines.

I bought the digital UnaGauge at the recommendation of Amazon reviewer Don Baker - thanks, Don. He's right, the digital version is much easier to use and only $20 more direct from Betterley (amazon doesn't sell the digital version yet) plus another $20 for shipping. Not only is it more accurate than the analog circular gauge, but it also has the advantage of readability for older eyes. The digital gauge itself is made by Quint - i think it's the same as the Quint iGaging Digital Electronic Indicator ($35.95 @amazon), so if you break your digital gauge, a replacement is neither expensive nor far away. I have another iGauge runout gauge and it has worked fine for me for quite a few years - i think mine is the same gauge as the Indicator as well, but it's built into a non-removable plastic case.

I have used the UnaGauge to align all of my woodworking table tools - it works beautifully. Before I got this gauge I was lucky to get my table saw miter slot/blade alignment within .005" with a combination square and none of my other gauges mounted in a miter slot. With this Betterley, .001" is trivial.

I looked at several less expensive runout gauges with miter rails, but I've accumulated about a half-dozen various digital gauges at this point and they're collecting in my shop like scrap wood. I decided to take the plunge and get the best I could find so that I'd have all my alignment needs covered. The UnaGauge doesn't disappoint. This gauge is expensive and i don't use it alot, but when I need perfect alignment this is what I grab. It comes with a relatively sturdy foam lined, plastic box that protects the UnaGauge. There was sufficient empty space for me to cut out some of the foam and store some of my other digital gauges as well. IMHO the digital gauge is worth the extra $40, but the analog would work fine as well if you have good eyes and are not concerned about .0001" accuracy. Recommended.

Order the original with dial indicator through Amazon/Rockler, or for $20 more you can order the digital model which at this time is brand new, direct from Betterley. I am not sure if shipping is included in the price from the manufacturer. They also have movies and slides online showing the amazing number of uses this tool quickly and easily performs. All accessories come with the tool, in a nice case to protect the investment. Either way, you will be sure to treasure this tool.

1/31/12 Update. I have used the Betterley gauge for awhile now. It has really helped nail getting the router bit at an exactly repeatable height for dovetails and for drawer lock joints. No more guessing, just set and micro-adjust for the actual type of wood being used. Bingo. Keep a record for the bit and that is it. One number per bit. Also I have been able to adjust the table saw blade and fence alignment with the included attachments. Expensive, yes but well worth it. Very well manufactured. I would buy again if I had it to do over again, but would not hesitate the second time around. I also am glad to have gotten the digital version.

I ordered the digital version directly from Betterley. Turns out they ship the iGagin digital indicator so now I have two of those. The design looks sound and some simple tests (I don't have a granite plate just a Veritas straight edge) show acceptable accuracy.

There is a flaw though. The current miter bar only has one spring loaded plunger to remove play. This means the bar can rock on that bearing. It also means if your miter slot is narrow you can be in trouble. Ideally they'd use two bearings or an expander.

The iGagin jig says I have .003 max between the blade and the miter slot while the una gauge says .007 or .003. Of course both numbers are within the spec of .010. In comparison the surface of my straight edge is reported as +- .0015.

This system is everything promised. I am enjoying the precision that it allows. I use it on my table saw for everything. On my drill press and router table so far. It is well made to say the least and MADE IN THE USA! Next is my jointer and expect it to provide the precision alignment of the cutter blades promised.

This is a remarkable and versatile tool for performing setups and alignments of woodworking machines. I have used this tool to align and adjust my table saw, to measure runout on my drill press, and to setup and align a new jointer/planer. If there is some sort of shop machine alignment or adjustment that can't be performed with the Una-Gauge, I can't imagine what it is. Between this tool, a good straightedge, and a good square, I would expect that anyone can keep woodworking machines in precise, safe alignment.

The included dial indicator has a resolution and margin of error of .001in, which is more than accurate enough for safe and precise alignment of woodworking machines. For some metalworking applications, it may be necessary to use a finer dial indicator, but someone with such a dial indicator could easily use it in the standard-sized holes of the Una-Gauge.

All told, an incredibly useful and well designed tool. I don't think I could replace it with any other single tool that I know of.
