Hodges (More than He Can Handle) gambles that hot sex scenes will make up for a predictable story, but her bet doesn't pay off. After being unceremoniously dumped and bilked out of thousands by her slimy restaurateur fiancé, Jade Christian takes an uncharacteristically reckless trip to Las Vegas. James George thinks women just want to use him to get to his NFL star brother, so when he bumps into Jade in a hotel, neither is prepared for their instant and genuine attraction. Though the sex sizzles, he's put off by her lust for revenge against her ex, and their friends and families are skeptical. Too obvious coincidences make the main conflict predictable and uninteresting, and side characters border on stereotypical. Hodges does score, however, on illustrating that taking a chance on love is not always a bad thing. (Nov.)

More About the Author

The writing bug bit hard and early for Bennettsville, SC native Cheris F. Hodges. As a student at Marlboro County High School, Hodges knew she was going to be a writer. She joined the school's newspaper staff and decided journalism was the way to go.
Upon graduating in 1995, she enrolled at Johnson C. Smith University and majored in journalism, all the while working on her novels.
While working at the Covington News in Covington, Georgia, Hodges wrote and self-published 'Searching For Paradise.'
After completing her first novel, she tried, unsuccessfully to find an agent and publisher. Determined to share her work with the world, Hodges used the internet publisher Iuniverse.com.
A year later, she completed her first romance novel, 'Revelations.' This time, she found an agent and a publisher that saw the value of her work.
Maryland agent Sha-Shana Crichton signed Hodges to her agency and with in months, she had a two-book deal with Genesis Press Inc.
'Revelations' went on to become one of Genesis's best sellers. Fans and critics alike lauded her second Genesis Press novel, 'Cautious Heart'.

Betting On Love is DEFINITELY better than the first book in this series...but I MUST admit I find some of the characters main and secondary to be somewhat IMMATURE at times...I just expected more from the cast of characters...especially considering their ages and their professional status...I mean I know we all have DRAMA in our lives sometimes...but some of the scenarios are a bit OVER-THE-TOP, IMHO...however, I'll say AGAIN I find this storyline more ENJOYABLE than Let's Get It On...and the passion between Jade and James is extremely HOT & SPICY...that being said I'm still interested in reading the third book in this series just to see what happens with their ever-growing circle of family and friends.

Betting on love is a page turner. Revernge is best when you gain not 1 but 2 good things from it.

Cheris Hodges created a novel that was fun to read. Who doesn't like hearing about Vegas hook-ups? This one was memorable, steamy, and romantic.

She does a great job rounding out the character's lives without overwhelming you with too many players. It was easy to keep track of who was who. I really liked the main character Jade and her close-knit girlfriends who had her back. And James, her love interest, was a believable gentleman. It was nice to read about positive African-American characters.

This was my first novel by this talented writer, and I will continue reading her books.
