5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for 4 Ingredients!
Okay, it sounds impossible and not very tasty or interesting: dinners made from ONLY 4 ingredients or less. Trust me, this is much better than you think!

From desserts to sides and of course, dinners, this book has great advice for creating easy, delicious meals in no time with a minimum of ingredients. Highlights include what to keep on hand for such cooking and how to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Utter simplicity--it is what it is, but beware
The cover of this book says: "Prep in Minutes," "Make It Delicious," and "Easy Homemade Tonight." Well, 1 out of 3 is true. You certainly can prep these dishes in minutes, but the flavor is not delicious and definitely not homemade. The cover of this book says: "Prep in Minutes," "Make It Delicious," and "Easy Homemade Tonight." Well, 1 out of 3 is true. You certainly can prep these dishes in minutes, but the flavor is not delicious and definitely not homemade. The vast majority of dishes in this book consist of a can of this, a box of this, and some bottled sauce or other. While this is not bad on nights when you are just desperate to get anything on the table fast, I would definitely not call them "recipes"--they are more like ideas. To be honest, you could come up with most of these recipes yourself. For example, throw pasta, jarred pasta sauce, pre-cooked packaged meatballs, and olives in a skillet and--voila--"One-Pan Pasta and Meatballs." It's not that it's a bad idea, it's just that it's just that--an idea, not a recipe. If you are looking for real flavor and real home-cooked food with 4-ingredients, please be aware that this book relies almost exclusively on canned, jarred, bottled, and/or frozen goods (not surprising since General Mills owns the Betty Crocker label and I'm sure they want you to buy their products). The health-conscious should also be wary since processed foods generally have much higher sodium, sugar, and preservative content than fresh, whole ingredients. I can recommend this "cookbook" to someone who has no idea how to cook, is on a tight budget, and needs ideas for what to make fast, but I would suggest trying to substitute some fresh ingredients where possible. It could also be a good book to have on hand as an emergency source for ideas on very busy days (that's why I have it). It's not totally useless, but as far as cookbooks go . . . well, it isn't really a cookbook at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Too Easy., October 26, 2004
This review is from: Betty Crocker 4-Ingredient Dinners (Hardcover)
The other two reviewers raved about this, so maybe it's just me, but the title should be "The most simplistic recipes ever created". There is actually a recipe for a toasted cheese sandwhich. If you do not already know how to make this, then this book may be too advanced. Pass on this unless you can't come up with a can of soup, chicken & bag of veggies on your own.
I give it 4 stars only because it is Betty Crocker and it has great pictures.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful easy cookbook, September 15, 2007

If you are in a hurry or trying to teach someone to cook, this is a wonderful book. Recipes are very simple with 4 ingredients, there are also tips if you want to add more ingredients. I bought this for my daughter who is learning to cook and I was amazed at the nice variety of recipes. I bought one for myself too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy and tasty recipes, July 15, 2007
This review is from: Betty Crocker 4-Ingredient Dinners (Hardcover)
I've made several recipes from the 4-Ingredient Dinners cookbook and all have been well received. Tonight my kids lapped up the Breaded Pork Chops prepared using Bisquick, saltine cracker crumbs, salt and pepper, egg and a bit of water. The pork chops turned out tasty and relatively healthy since they were cooked over medium-high heat in a nonstick skillet sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.

I am already planning to buy several copies as Christmas gifts.

For those of us who aren't gifted in the culinary department, this book is a gift from above. Cooking can be a chore when you've got a hungry family waiting for something yummy to eat. This makes it oh so easy!! I'll be holding on to this book for many many years.

You won't find any caviar dishes here - but if you're blue-collar like us and don't mind eating Ravioli occasionally, then this is your book! (C'mon - you know you like Ravioli...)

There are some great dishes in here, and if you use a few spices and things like ground turkey instead of beef, you can make them healthier and tastier as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy and Tasty, July 29, 2007
This review is from: Betty Crocker 4-Ingredient Dinners (Hardcover)
The recipes in this book were both easy and tasty. The book is written clearly and all of the recipes are quick and easy. This book made me a star with my teenager. She likes the stir fry recipe and everyone likes the munchy chocolate cookies.
