Wonderful Cookie Book!,
This review is from: Betty Crocker Cookie Book (Hardcover)
Out of all the names in cookie books out there, Betty Crocker is one of the most, if not the most, famous. This fame was gained with good reason. Dozens of generations have grown on Betty's goodies and it shows in that she remains hugely popular throughout the years.
This book honors the Betty Crocker good name. Dozens of oh-so-yummy different recipes for eevryone to enjoy. The variety is quite astounding as she has more than enough cookies to fill up several chapters ranging from drop cookies, bar cookies, shaped cookies, kids cookies, etc. She even has a special chapter that's bound to become very useful in this day and age, dedicated to cookies for special diets. Here you'll find several treats for people on diets or with conditions such as diabetes or certain food allergies. I'd name some of the family's favorite recipes but there are really to many to mention! Betty's instructions are, as usual, very simple to follow through and not only that, she even makes it easier on you by providing little tips on baking startegies, ingredient substitutions, etc. on almost all of the recipes. This makes it a cinch to turn out perfect cookies every time no matter what your baking skill is like. I'd just like to highly recommend this book. It's a big favorite of my family and I've baked endlessly from it and not had anything fail me from it yet. They've been perfect as gifts, treats, to sell, and to cure the occasional boo-boo. This is as great as home-baked goodness can get!

Much better cookie books out there,
By DB (Los Gatos, Ca) - See all my reviews

I picked this book up at a store and ended up returning it. Some cute ideas but was disappointed by the many recipes that started with cake mixes. Tried the witches' broomstick cookie, cute but not a great tasting cookie. If you really like to bake cookies there are much better books out there.

A MUST Have For Any Baker!,
By
This review is from: Betty Crocker Cookie Book (Hardcover)
I found this book in the library and today, after baking another pan of brownies, I had to own it! The German Chocolate Brownies got the higest ever Yum Factor rating from co-workers, I am not sure if that will stand once they taste the Milk Chocolate - Malted Brownies, baked with chopped Malted Milk Balls on top! I had never made homemade brownies, but after making the Ulitmate Brownie recipe I will never used a boxed mix again. These are just too easy and too good! The pictures are wonderful and cutting diagrams for getting the most out of each goodie are helpful. This book will have a place of honor among my other well used cook-books. Enjoy every tasty bite!

An Updated Version of Classic Betty Crocker,
By Shirley (East Amherst, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Betty Crocker Cookie Book (Hardcover)
I own the 1963 version of the Betty Crocker Cookie Cookbook. It has all the classic recipes. This newer version has a lot of the classics but also a lot of new and trendy items--like cappucino flavors and biscotti. There's recipes for amazing bar cookies. Some of the recipes utilize newer ingredients that weren't around in 1963. With this book, you can make cookies that are a little different and more up to date. If you're looking for a classic, those recipes are there too.

A book for anyone with a sweet tooth and a mixer!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Betty Crocker Cookie Book (Hardcover)
I feel liked I gained weight just looking at the book. With mouth-watering pictures you will too. This delectable reference book is filled with simple recipes and step-by-step directions, quick tips, and nutritional information for every cookie and brownie. While my favorite is the traditional chocolate chip cookie, I found references for soft, crispy, chewy, nutty, and candy-filled cookies.

Every Christmas my mom, sister and I have a gift exchange; however, since times are tough we decided to try something different. We had a cookie exchange. I bought this book give me some ideas for new cookies to try. Success. They all turned out delicious. Of course my husband had to test them out before I took them to make sure they weren't poisoned...upon doing so he begged me to make an extra dozen to leave at home! This is a fun book to read as well if you are like me and enjoy reading cookbooks. It's especially great if you need to whip up something in a hurry for a party or any other special occasion...they have recipes that require little or even some Betty Crocker boxed cake mix.

A great basic cookie book,
By Martha McKinnon, Simple Nourished Living (Phoenix, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Betty Crocker Cookie Book (Hardcover)
This is a great basic cookie book filled with more than 200 recipes for all kinds of cookies, from the tried and true classics (chocolate chip, oatmeal, peanut butter, molasses) to more trendy treats (tiramisu cheesecake bars, amaretto brownies, orange almond biscotti, cappuccino pistachio biscotti).
The Betty Crocker Cookie book begins with lots of helpful information on the "doughs" and "doughn'ts" of cookie baking, which is important for those new to cookie baking. Detailed explanations for how to measure ingredients, the effects of different fats on cookie texture, melting chocolate, common baking equivalents and substitutions, and the effects different kinds of equipment, such as cookie sheets can have on your cookies. There are also helpful tips and hints for rolling dough evenly, lining baking pans, cooling, storing, and freezing cookies. There are chapters devoted to: Easy Drop Cookies Bars and Brownies Cookies for Kids Cookies Made from a Mix Hand Shaped and Pressed Cookies Rolled Cut Out Cookies Fancy Cookies for Celebrations Cookies for Special Diets Pictures for many of the cookies are scattered throughout the book. Most pages include additional tips and hints for cookie baking success in the sidebar. If you are an experienced cookie baker, you may find this cookbook too basic. If you prefer to bake only from scratch this may not be the best book for you either, since there is a whole chapter devoted to using mixes. This is also not the Betty Crocker Cookie Book from 1963. It has been updated significantly to reflect current baking trends. If you are new to cookie baking and/or prefer easy home style cookies that don't take all day or a require a culinary degree, this is definitely a book you'll want for your collection. I've made more than a dozen recipes from this book that have all turned out well and have many more pages with recipes I want to try tagged.

Absolute nostalgia!,
By "chemdiva" (Dearborn, MI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Betty Crocker's Cookie Book (Hardcover)
This is an absolute classic. When I was little, my mom and I would go through the cookbook, making the recipes in order. I still use it every year for Christmas cookie gifts. My mom's copy is at least 25 years old now, with pages missing, torn, and splotched from years of use. If anyone has one they want to sell, let me know!

The book arrived on time though somewhat dented from shipping. This cookbook has lots of information for the new cook and tells what the reasons are for failed cookies - as well as wonderful receipes. I reccommend it very much as a gift to the young cooks.

Very good recipes, clear instruction,...some minor errors,
This review is from: Betty Crocker Cookie Book (Hardcover)
Made a few cookies from this book. In the bars section, I've tried a few recipes but found some typos that made the instruction a little confusing but not difficult to overcome. Didnt' really like the section that used the premix ingredients. Wished that section was written with something a little more interesting. Otherwise a good cookie book to have on hand.
