5.0 out of 5 stars Betty Crocker continues its tradition of excellence.
If you enjoy the Betty Crocker series of cookbooks, this is right in there with the best. Highly doable home-cooking, with elegance and imagination. I enjoy the photos. I somewhat wish there were more main-dish recipes, as the ones presented are in one slim chapter. Also, this is a very hefty book and doesn't open as flat as the spiral bound hardcovers in some of the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Exactly the Best
This is an admirable attempt at an all-purpose, easy to follow family cookbook. Sadly, this one is riddled with errors and not really suitable for much of anything.

It has the following chapters: All About Baking, Breads, Cookies, Main and Side Dishes, Desserts, Baking with Kids, and Holidays. The chapter on main dishes is rather out of place and inexplicable. The term...

If you enjoy the Betty Crocker series of cookbooks, this is right in there with the best. Highly doable home-cooking, with elegance and imagination. I enjoy the photos. I somewhat wish there were more main-dish recipes, as the ones presented are in one slim chapter. Also, this is a very hefty book and doesn't open as flat as the spiral bound hardcovers in some of the other Betty Crocker volumes. However, it's still a handsomely presented book, and would make an excellent gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent For Experienced And Beginning Cooks, November 1, 2000
This review is from: Betty Crocker's Best of Baking: More Than 350 of America's Favorite Recipes (Hardcover)
I have several cookbooks and enjoy the challenge of intricate gourmet recipes. But for everyday baking, I find myself turning to Betty Crocker's Best Baking more than any other cookbook on my shelves. These recipes are reliable and beautifully presented. Even for the experienced cook, the baking tips at the beginning of several of the chapters are extremely helpful. If I had to give up all but one of my cookbooks, this would be the one I would choose to keep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic reasource for baking, March 7, 2001
This review is from: Betty Crocker's Best of Baking: More Than 350 of America's Favorite Recipes (Hardcover)
Having grown up cooking with Betty Crocker I could not resist this book. This book has a wonderful and vast selection of good recipes. One thing I love about Betty Crocker is they kitchen test all recipes throughly. So you can feel comfortable about the recipes as they are written. I love to experiement, but like you, I hate feeling left in the dark when it comes to new recipes and their preparation. I would definately urge you to pick up this recipe if you want excellent baking recipes. They range from breads, sweets, cookies, cakes, and more. You will soon be cooking up all sorts of tasty treats for your loved ones.

Once again Betty Crocker didn't let me down. I bought this book last year and I use it all the time. It has great recipes, well explained and some of them have pictures also.
In this book you will find tutorials as well. I've done lots of recipes and all of them turned out great and had friends and a boyfriend asking for more. The book has seven chapters:

All about baking (cooking terms, ingredients glossary, how to's and mesuring ingredients)
Breads (yeast, quick and bread machine)

Cookies
Main and side dishes
Desserts
Baking with kids
Holidays

Highlights:
Cinnamon-Raisin bread
Potato Refrigerator dough
Pesto biscuits
Muffins (all of them!!)
Zucchini bread
Cheesy breadsticks (easy and quick)
Ultimate chocolate chip cookie
Snickerdoodles
Brownies
...I could go on forever
hope you enjoy it as much as I did

5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy and reliable., August 23, 1998
This review is from: Betty Crocker's Best of Baking: More Than 350 of America's Favorite Recipes (Hardcover)
I got this book a few months ago as a gift, and it has already become a standby. I'm becoming a Betty Crocker zealot, mainly because I've never found as reliable a series of books. I have my mother's old beaten-up old Betty Crocker Cookbook, my own updated version, Betty Crocker's New Cookbook, and now this one. The new book has already yielded up a new household favorite recipe for meatloaf and blueberry muffins, and is a favorite for curling up and dreaming of recipes still to bake. The thing I like most about these books is that they are totally reliable. I never have anything less than success if I follow their instructions correctly. They are forgiving, and they appear to have been tested against the most inept of cooks. I'm a pretty good cook, but we all have our off days, and it's nice to know that I can open a book, find a recipe, follow it, and produce something that looks just like the picture, and tastes as good as it looks. Buy this book, and try the banana blueberry muffins and favorite meat loaf. I couldn't wish you anything better.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for every kitchen library, January 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Betty Crocker's Best of Baking: More Than 350 of America's Favorite Recipes (Hardcover)
Upon reading the title, one might think, "How can there be 350 recipes for desserts?" You can only bake so many types of brownies and cheesecakes! But, I was pleasantly surprised by my narrow understanding of the word bake. This cookbook is filled with recipes from baking cookies to baking main courses and side dishes such as Venetian scallops and corn pudding. There is also a holiday baking section and a section on baking with kids, which I especially enjoyed. It is fun and creative, with each recipe in easy to follow, step-by-step format for young readers. Having all the basics in one place, with some "unusuals" throughout, this cookbook is a must for the kitchen libraries of new cooks and veteran cooks alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this Book & Recipes, September 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Betty Crocker's Best of Baking: More Than 350 of America's Favorite Recipes (Hardcover)
This is an excellant baking book for both experienced & beginning cooks. Has a good assortment of baking recipes & love using this book. I use it often & have never had any trouble with any of the recipes. The beginning cook should use common sense when baking & cooking with any cookbook full of recipes. The schools should re-instate home ec classes so these new cooks & bakers have some sort of basic knowledge before they try to use a cookbook. Anyway this is an excellant baking book, use it in good health & enjoy the recipes.
