5.0 out of 5 stars America's Sweetheart Indeed!, November 28, 2010
By
Kasey G (Toronto, ON) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Betty White 2011 Wall Calendar (Calendar)
Every December I can't help but peruse the Calendar Kiosk at the mall to see what celebrities and shows have cemented themselves into Pop Culture history via these freshly-printed monthly records for the upcoming New Year.

The staples are always there: Elvis, Marilyn, Lucy, etc. as well as the current crop of media sensations: Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Twilight, Glee, etc.

What a delight this year to see America's Sweetheart, Betty White awarded her own 2011 Calendar. Technically, this isn't Betty's first calendar appearance because about 20 years back there were "Golden Girls" calendars available for a few years when the series was at the height of its popularity. But this is the first calendar that's ALL Betty, ALL the time! (or as the cover proudly proclaims: "12 Months of Betty at Her Best!").

The high-quality pages contain the following images of the unsinkable octagerarian:

January: A great colorized early '50s pose of Betty in a sleeveless striped top wearing pearls and smiling.

February: A 1990s pic of Betty lounging in silver dress (from an Entertainment Weekly photo shoot), being waited on hand-and-foot by a trio of hunks in black-and-gold '50s-style swim trunks. (From the same photo session as the cover but a different pic).

March: A recent pic of Betty in a yellow blouse listening to a boom-box and giving a peace sign with her fingers.

April: A large B&W pic of Betty as Sue-Ann Nivens putting the moves on a disinterested Lou Grant.

May: Betty and Molly Shannon in a pic from the hilarious SNL "Muffin" talk show sketch from May 2010.

June: A large B&W pic of Allen Ludden kissing Betty's cheek on their wedding day in 1963.

The centrespread features a nice collage of color and B&W Betty pics from the early '50s to the present.

July: A large B&W pic of Betty and Johnny Carson as Tarzan and Jane. Betty's wearing a leopard-print jungle dress.

August: Color pic of Betty dressed as a chicken from the "Golden Girls" episode where they put on the "Henny Penny" play.

September: B&W pic of Betty playing the piano with a poodle, circa 1958.

October: Betty and Will Forte in a SNL parody of "The Lawrence Welk Show" from May 2010.

November: A gorgeous color 1950s pic of Betty in a red plaid cowboy shirt relaxing against a big haystack.

December: Betty on the "Today Show" with Elmo of Sesame Street, from 2010.

Each month also has a small blurb with fun facts about Betty and the proceeds will go to one of Betty's animal charities.

Cute, campy and great fun for the year to come. Get it!

It's a cute calender, containing photos of Ms. White from the 1950's throughout her career to present day. Most people will recognize several photos, esp. from the Mary Tyler Moore show. I bought it for my Mom, MIL who got a kick out of it and also for a few friends who donate to animal charities, because Ms. White's royalties from this calendar go to the Morris Animal Foundation. I appreicated that I got a nice gift with more meaning behind it.

5.0 out of 5 stars thank you for being a friend, February 3, 2011
This review is from: Betty White 2011 Wall Calendar (Calendar)
This really is a very nice calendar of everyone's favorite "golden girl." The pictures are very colorful, and span Ms. White's entire career, even including some new pictures from her SNL appearance last year. By the way, I posted a scan of the back of it in case you're curious to see what it looks like. My favorite pic is probably the one for Feb. It features a picture of Betty surrounding by a group of shirtless dudes. The centerfold includes a mini poster of "Betty & friends" that is Betty and some of the animals that she has helped over the years. I recognized Kitta, Betty's longtime Golden Retriever because some years back she sent me a beautiful autographed photo of her with this adorable creature. The calendar also includes lots of facts and anecdotes about Betty and her record-making career. Another favorite pic of mine is the one for August. This includes one of Rose dressed as Henny Penny. Another thing to take note is that all of Betty's royalties from this calendar will be going to support one of her favorite animal causes. Each month is also color coded and of course includes all of the important dates to remember. This is a practical and useful calendar just as much as it's a celebration of Betty's Herculean contributions.

The item is pretty self-explanatory, and it's pretty awesome on my wall. The friend who received it as a gift loves it, too. What more could you want? Great pictures, and little blurbs about Betty White facts. Multiple country holidays marked (U.S., U.K., Canada, New Zealand/Australia). Great for any Betty White fan or anyone with a great sense of humor!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great calendar. It may become a collectors item., December 5, 2010

The calendar is terrific. Betty White has given us many laughs over the years, mostly by playing dim-witted characters. I especially loved her in The Golden Girls, which has become a classic. The series really does not seem to age. Still very funny, all of them, and hard to believe she's the only one left. She will live on in her work, meanwhile we can enjoy her current works. And how touching that animal-loving Betty White is donating the proceeds to the Morris Animal Foundation (Google, go on-line and see their video). Thank you, Betty, for all you did for us, for all the good laughs.
