Editorial Reviews

While the band's last record,Folklore and Superstition, was a compelling tribute to brotherhood and history, the new album is the summation of a year in the life of the band - every emotion, triumph, loss, romance and everything in between - it's all here on Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.

First single "White Trash Millionaire," pairs Robertson's soulful delivery with the urgent and infectious rhythms of his fellow players. Sure, this is Southern rock at heart; but the concept is universal: just take what the world gives you and make that work. "This album is the culmination of all of the everyday ups and downs life throws at you," says the band. "Sonically, you'll hear some of the meanest sounding guitar riffs we've ever laid down, and at the same time, you'll find ballads that will tug on your heartstrings. We wanted the album's intensity to match that of our live show."

The three great songs on this CD are...White Trash Millionaire, Blame It On The Boom Boom, and Let Me See You Shake.

Black Stone Cherry has become one of my favorite bands, they are just pure rock and roll with a good southern twist.

I really don't know what everyone who gave this album a bad review was actually listening to. This album is great. From the opener,"White Trash Millionaire", down to the last minute. I couldn't give this album less than 5 stars. "In My Blood" is what got me to actually listen to this. Awesome song. And the version of "Can't You See" is, what I can only call, an original cover. I love this album and I think it is one of the best I've heard so far this year.

I'm surprised at the neutral or negative reviews. I'd never heard the band but bought this album on a whim when it came up on a $5 promo. Maybe I simply wasn't burdened by expectations based on previous work but I was more than pleasantly surprised. These guys rock.

Bottom line: This is just a great rock album that blends in different styles from bluesy to southern rock to soaring guitar. It is tailor-made for blasting to a packed arena. If the best criticism you can muster is the trite "it sounds commercial," then by all means continue blindly head-banging to screams, snarls, and uncoordinated instrument thrashing. If sounding "commercial" means it has rhythm, melodic composition, well wrought vocals, and lyrics worthy of remembrance then sign me up.

Great album from start to finish. The CD starts off with a Bang in White Trash Millionaire and never stops throughout the whole album. If you like Southern Rock infused with Metal, you will like this.

I was looking for something different to listen to. This is one of those cd's that I keep going back to. The music is my style , as it's a bit of southern rock and hard rock combined.

I fell in love with this band's style when I first heard "hell and high water" on their first album. I call this "free rock" because they don't seem to follow any strict forms in their music. When you hear them, you know they are unique and not some run of the mill band playing tired songs on the radio. Instead, the drummer absolutely rocks out instead of playing the worn out 4/4 beats. The guitarists do the same by just rocking out on the songs. The main vocalist has improved since the first album. Some of the songs on here aren't that great but others are very catchy.
