This review is from: Between the Earth & Sky (Audio CD)
In the early/mid 80's Canadian singer /songwriter Luba released seveal albums that captured what was best in the music of the era. The first being the new wave tinged "Secrets & Sins," and, this more mainstream pop effort from 1986. It's hard to believe that both are out of print at this point. For whatever reason, Luba never enjoyed the type of success commesurate with her talent. Despite the use of several tracks from the "Secrets & Sins" album on the "9 1/2 Weeks" soundtrack, and her winning a JUNO award (Canadioan Grammy), major notoriety alluded her and she was for the most part unknown. What a shame, the songs here are are fun and strong melodicaly, and to her credit they have stood up well after a quarter of a century. Luba did release other albums after "Between Earth & Sky", notably 1989's "All Or Nothing," and, 2000's "From The Bitter To The Sweet," but none were as memorable or able to take advantage of her considerable talents, not least of which her distinctive sultry and soulful voice, and ecclectic tastes. If you like mid 80's pop, it would be worth tracking this effort down before it vanishes for good.
