Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Timothy's second book reads like a proud Papa as he describes the pleasures of parenthood in beautiful and simple language. In the first section of his book, he shares poems of his growing up in the late sixties. His "Union Blue" captures perfectly the loneliness of being a teenager. Steam locomotives and the Civil War appear in various poems throughout the book and he uses this nostalgia to great effectiveness. His poems of his toddlers and infant in the latter part of the book are in some ways flashbacks to the beginning poems dealing with his adolescence. We see through his poems that the track of the train is circular though by no means ordinary or predictable.

Between the Fog is unique in what it excludes (Greek mythology and ivory tower phrases) and what it includes: a dozen pen-and-ink sketches by Mr. David Chacon. These wonderful drawings reinforce the childhood innocence that is at the book's center. The colorful cover's steam locomotive was hand-drawn by Mr. Bill Ringeis using his son's model train. For the author, the sight of this train was love at first write!

From the Author

One of the biggest problems with poetry is that most people associate it with dead poets or the much-suffering artist or the high society. In high school we dreaded fifth period English; in bookstores today we avoid the poetry section at all cost. As a nation, in fifty short years, we have lost our thirst for poetry and our ability to drink it whole. Poetry should make you think without getting a headache; should celebrate the everyday in its simplicity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book about the beauty of children and childhood, May 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Between the Fog and the Freight Train (Paperback)
'Betweeen the Fog' is a wonderful example of poetry as it should be. Easy to read and understand while at the same time touching our hearts and souls. The words draw pictures in one's mind that are crystal clear. Timothy has a wonderful ability to encourage us to see with ours hearts. A 'must have' book for anyone who loves children and poetry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good selection of poems. Feel the warmth of his house, May 8, 1998

This review is from: Between the Fog and the Freight Train (Paperback)
This selection of poems is much better than the selection in his first self published book. You can feel the history and love that builds with each poem. Sketches are a great touch
