There is music that you want to hold onto and call your own and only parcel out slowly to those you deem deserve it - this is such an album. The problem here is that to many of us who loved this album must have done just that for somehow this did not achieve any sort of underground groundswell and the band seems to have passed out of existence as a result (they did put out two not nearly as transcendent follow up albums.) Somehow now I regret keeping this band close to my chest now. Perhaps if I had come on here years ago and written up the wonder I felt every time I listened to 'Sticky Fruit' (a song that grabs your soul from the earliest thunder crack and doesn't let up) maybe Starlings would have followed this winning formula...

It's not quite like anything I've every heard before - gruff vocals, guitars and mandolins combined with eerie, spacey fiddle playing heavy on the reverb - maybe if Johnny Cash had recorded an album with Sigur Ros... Terrific songwriting, too. It'll get in your head, that's for sure.

I listen to this album quite often - I first heard them on NPR a few months ago. If you're into bluegrass and looking for something new, definately check this band out.
