Another great story from Steven Wilson!,

This review is from: Between the Hunters and the Hunted (Paperback)
After reading Steven Wilson's "Voyage of the Gray Wolves," I purchased "Between the Hunters and the Hunted." As with "Voyage," I found "Hunters and Hunted" to be well-researched and very entertaining; however, Mr. Wilson's writing skills have improved significantly with this novel making it a very readable book. I commend this novel to anyone with and interest in WWII. I am looking forward with considerable anticipation to the incarnation of the British destroyer Firedancer and her captain and crew!

Fanatastic Read,

I had a chance to read this book as it came out and it held my interest from the beginning. It has a lot of characters from the author's first book, Voyage of the Gray Wolves, but the setting is different. I highly recommend it.

But I found that although the story was engaging the battle scenes lacked credibility and the editing was terrible. Chapter 29 opens with the British light cruiser 30 kilometers distant from the German battleship, "too close for Anton (A turret) to get a good shot". Clearly at 20 miles the 16 inch guns of the battleship would have plenty of time and reach to take out the cruiser long before being in range herself - how it can be claimed that at that distance the main batteries cannot be brought to bear? The premise is that the most powerful ship in the world is unable to sink a light cruiser approaching from that distance before she is close enough to (spoiler averted). Similary, there are a number of places where the editing or proofing is non-existant. Later in that same chapter the German Captain is informed that there is a "British destroyer just clearing our bows. At ten thousand kilometers." There are several places where meters and kilometers are confused - I have to assume that the destroyer isn't really 6,000+ miles away, but that is what the book says! Again, the story is engaging, but you had better be willing to suspend your disbelief and overlook some major errors to see it as being believable.

The people in the novel are coming to terms with what war does to people. The old veterans who are scared and have given up living through the war, but charge ahead. The new who still think they are invincible. The surviors, who wrestle with why. Good action with real like people who fight wars

This is a great, exciting, interesting novel by Mr. Wilson who clearly did his research both into historical facts and the complexities of a sea battle. I recommend this to all who are prepared to go non-stop once they read the first page.

WWII Submarine Thriller From Steve Wilson,

This review is from: Between the Hunters and the Hunted (Paperback)
This book has one of those stories that take history for a ride with alternate imaginary, historic events and possible endings. Author Steven Wilson does a great job of selling this story line to the reader in his newest novel called "Between The Hunters And The Hunted." It is a thriller with lots of action but it is also has a cerebral plot that was well thought out.
The author makes his story very plausible and believable and more importantly, he makes it entertaining. This is the kind of tale that would make a good action movie. For lovers of naval adventures and submarines at war this book has all you could ask for. The author does a first rate job with his characters and the dialogs. This is the kind of book that you will not want to put down until you have read the last page. Given MWSA's highest book rating - FIVE STARS!

The Nazis have built the mightiest war ship on the planet and on its maiden voyage its mission is to sink the ship that is taking Churchill to Canada to meet Roosevelt. From this premise emerges one of the best sea stories I've read in a long time. The author, with his authoritative knowledge of the sea, ships and the war, spins a yarn that is believeable, gripping and stirring. I haven't read Wilson's earlier book, but you can bet I will. As for this book, it's in the first rank of military sea tales, for my money.

Here is a short review. "Between the Hunters and the Hunters" is a good premise for the story during the grey days of WW2 in the North Atlantic. I felt the action was sufficient and the ending was lively and dramatic. If I could bump it up to a three and half I would. There is enough here to make me want to read another Steven Wilson book.
