Book Description

November 3, 2008

There is no problem in your life that isn't caused by the ego, financially, personally, physically, or when dealing with relationships. If you want to develop your character, your fortitude and friendships, you have to deal with the ego first and foremost. As long as you allow the ego to have its way, you will continually be plagued by unwanted problems.

The ego has an obsessive, compulsive emotional drive system while you, the conscious self, have will power. This is a huge difference in power, that you can neutralize by developing the behavioral tools of control, given to you in this book! Because of the ego s power and control, there isn't one unwanted problem you have, that the ego doesn t create.

Whenever you experience anxiety, fear, anger, hate, guilt or bipolar problems, they are all created by the ego. The behavioral tools of control can calm the ego down and soothe its feelings of insecurity and vulnerability to eventually eliminate these problems permanently.

This is a practical hands on type book with 15 behavioral tools you can use to control the ego. When you can handle several of the tools simultaneously, there is no situation you can't handle. It doesn't matter if you have a phobia, like a fear of flying, you ll be able to remain calm in any situation.

Most people are not aware of this internal battle for their consciousness. When you're in control, you'll be in the present with awareness of what's going on. When the ego is in control, you lose this awareness and become unconscious, as it takes command of the mind with worries and concerns about the future, or upset with the problems, regrets and snubs that happened today, yesterday or sometime in the past.

If you meditate and keep the mind blank, and then listen watchfully, the ideas that come into the mind will be coming from the ego. That's when you learn a lot about it. With a stop watch, time yourself to see how long you can keep the mind blank without the it's intrusion. Ten seconds is the usual amount of time for most people, when not using any tools to control the ego.

To take command of the self you need to develop the tools that can keep you in the present, not for ten seconds, but for most of the time. When not in the present you will be ruled by the ego's ire about the past, and/or worried about the future. Because of an inability to stay in the present, the ego controls by default, and be successful at manipulating and controlling the mind to satisfy its desires.

If left on your own, the ability to stay in the present can be very difficult to do. But with the behavioral tools of control, staying in the present becomes an easy activity to accomplish.

So the ego has its bag of tricks, like worries, fears, desires, regrets, guilt, and pride to maneuver its way into the mind and you have your bag of behavioral tools that will allow you to subdue the ego, so you're in control and are able to reclaim your position as master of the self.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why you need to take control of your life., April 14, 2010
This review is from: The War Between The Ego And You; The Internal Battles For Control Of The Self (Paperback)
This book is based on the premise that the vast majority of our thoughts are controlled by our egos and that our egos tend to lead us into unhealthy mental and emotional channels. The ego dwells on past problems, failings, and injustices and on future worries and concerns. The author feels that we need to encourage our Higher Self to take control and to live in the present. The reasons and rational for this philosophy are given along with practical things one can do to stay in the present and keep our ego and the problems it creates under control.

Also included in this book is a fairly lengthy set of appendices detailing human development from birth to maturity. It discusses how the mind grows and develops it's inter connections, and how your actions and reactions change along with these developments. This of course is backup for why the ego has such a great influence on you and why you need to control it.

The War Between the Ego and You- The Internal Battles for Control of the Self By Marvin Kistler at times gets quite scientific but also discusses some basic problems and gives doable self help solutions for its readers to follow.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, May 4, 2010

This review is from: The War Between The Ego And You; The Internal Battles For Control Of The Self (Paperback)
I pretty much devored The War Between the Ego and You - mainly because it is one of the first books that I have read (and believe me, I read alot!) that actually clearly and honestly explains how the ego truly interacts with our minds, bodies and spirits. In fact, the author has a very interesting section on how the ego and other various parts of the mind develop as we age - which explains, at least in part, why I seem to hang on to much more of my "crap" than I use to.

In fact, as we "assemble" experiences, feelings and general life "stuff" we find ourselves becoming more and more in conflict with our ego - the part of us that constantly nags at us and tells us that we are not good enough or that we are not doing enough or that we are not doing it well.

The good news is that there are ways to "reprogram" the brain to overide, if you will, the influence and feelings that the ego sends ut. It requires a lot of commitment and alot of "believing" but it can be done.

Very well written, informative and obviously researched book. I also found it quite inspirational.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a 5+ Stars Book!, April 22, 2010
This review is from: The War Between The Ego And You; The Internal Battles For Control Of The Self (Paperback)
We've all heard it. That little voice that is inside your head that nags at you for being late to pick the kids up from school, not making it to that meeting on time and thousands of other things that happen during our lives. No, it's not your conscience my friend, it's your big fat ego. This book was a real page turning from start to finish. It is busting with useful information on the brain and how as we mature so does the brain. Not only, that but the resource information that is located in the back of the book offered even more useful information. This is a book that I can easily recommend to my friends and even to my boss.
