4.0 out of 5 stars Why you need to take control of your life., April 14, 2010
This review is from: The War Between The Ego And You; The Internal Battles For Control Of The Self (Paperback)
This book is based on the premise that the vast majority of our thoughts are controlled by our egos and that our egos tend to lead us into unhealthy mental and emotional channels. The ego dwells on past problems, failings, and injustices and on future worries and concerns. The author feels that we need to encourage our Higher Self to take control and to live in the present. The reasons and rational for this philosophy are given along with practical things one can do to stay in the present and keep our ego and the problems it creates under control.

Also included in this book is a fairly lengthy set of appendices detailing human development from birth to maturity. It discusses how the mind grows and develops it's inter connections, and how your actions and reactions change along with these developments. This of course is backup for why the ego has such a great influence on you and why you need to control it.

The War Between the Ego and You- The Internal Battles for Control of the Self By Marvin Kistler at times gets quite scientific but also discusses some basic problems and gives doable self help solutions for its readers to follow.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, May 4, 2010

This review is from: The War Between The Ego And You; The Internal Battles For Control Of The Self (Paperback)
I pretty much devored The War Between the Ego and You - mainly because it is one of the first books that I have read (and believe me, I read alot!) that actually clearly and honestly explains how the ego truly interacts with our minds, bodies and spirits. In fact, the author has a very interesting section on how the ego and other various parts of the mind develop as we age - which explains, at least in part, why I seem to hang on to much more of my "crap" than I use to.

In fact, as we "assemble" experiences, feelings and general life "stuff" we find ourselves becoming more and more in conflict with our ego - the part of us that constantly nags at us and tells us that we are not good enough or that we are not doing enough or that we are not doing it well.

The good news is that there are ways to "reprogram" the brain to overide, if you will, the influence and feelings that the ego sends ut. It requires a lot of commitment and alot of "believing" but it can be done.

Very well written, informative and obviously researched book. I also found it quite inspirational.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a 5+ Stars Book!, April 22, 2010
This review is from: The War Between The Ego And You; The Internal Battles For Control Of The Self (Paperback)
We've all heard it. That little voice that is inside your head that nags at you for being late to pick the kids up from school, not making it to that meeting on time and thousands of other things that happen during our lives. No, it's not your conscience my friend, it's your big fat ego. This book was a real page turning from start to finish. It is busting with useful information on the brain and how as we mature so does the brain. Not only, that but the resource information that is located in the back of the book offered even more useful information. This is a book that I can easily recommend to my friends and even to my boss.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and informative., April 14, 2010

This review is from: The War Between The Ego And You; The Internal Battles For Control Of The Self (Paperback)
That little voice inside your head that constantly nags on you about being late to work, or missing a big promotion and a hundred other negative things is not a guilty conscience but rather your ego. It is the part of your brain that is constantly consumed with negativity and worry. In his book, Marvin Kistler explains why it is important to take control of your life and also gives tips on how to be successful.

The book is filled with great information on how the brain changes and matures as we age. The resource information in the back was very helpful in understanding how the ego works and the effects it can have on our daily lives. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about the mind and how it works.

4.0 out of 5 stars How to control your Ego., April 14, 2010

This review is from: The War Between The Ego And You; The Internal Battles For Control Of The Self (Paperback)
Often times we hear people talking about how big someones ego is, but what exactly does that mean? It is mostly said with a negative connotation meant to show how insincere a person can be. In the book "The War Between The Ego And You: The Internal Battles For Control of the Self" by Marvin Kistler, the topic of ego is discussed at length. Kistler explains how the ego is consumed with the negative things that have happened in our past. If allowed to go unchecked, this portion of our brain will take over an lead us down a path of negativity and unhealthy emotions.

I found this book interesting to read. I am fascinated by the mind and what makes people tick. I am constantly reading books on psychology and psychological thrillers. I loved the way Kistler gives an in depth description of the ego and how it affects our daily lives. If you are interested in psychology, then this is one that should be on your must read list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone's green monster does have a name..., April 5, 2010
This review is from: The War Between The Ego And You; The Internal Battles For Control Of The Self (Paperback)
Have you ever wondered if the little green monster on your shoulder had a name? It does and it is called your ego. No one can honestly understand the power of the mind and the ego until the thoughts appear real enough to make you feel you are right and there is no other answer. In this book titled "The War between the Ego and You - The Internal Battles for Control of the Self" by Marvin Kistler. This book has you from the first page until the ride is over. It honestly makes you realize just how strong the mind can be. We as humans also never realize just how much we do struggle within ourselves. This will have you thinking and wondering just how much control we honestly have over ourselves. I know I question myself at least ten times a day. This was a very good read.
