Book Description

Reid Alexander is used to getting what he wants - and what he wants next is his newest costar, Emma Pierce. The universe is lining up nicely to grant his wish, until he's confronted with two unexpected obstacles on location: a bitter ex-girlfriend and a rival for Emma's affections.

Emma Pierce just got her big break after years of filming commercials and made-for-TV movies. Winning the lead role in a wide-release film - opposite the very hot Reid Alexander - should be a dream come true. But Emma's heart is hiding a secret fantasy: she wants to be a normal girl.

(Mature Young Adult / New Adult)

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Amidst the filming, the partying and the constant media attention, hearts will be broken, secrets will be revealed, and a love story will begin... Between the Lines is fast-paced, fun and bittersweet, and readers won't want to put this book down until they discover whether there is such a thing as happily ever after for the characters." ~ Fiktshun

"Emma and Reid's chemistry is off the charts after their screen test and Emma gets Reid to do something he usually doesn't...care. He's not used to competition and he gets a big dose of it from the wonderful but secretive Graham Douglas." ~ For What It's Worth

"It's a true love/coming-of-age story, and the characterization is just beautiful." ~ Book Vacations

"Bad boy Reid and sweet Emma, I feel like they are really out there somewhere, their voice was so genuine and real. And while I love Reid, I completely fell head over heels for Graham." ~ The Secret Life of an Avid Reader

"Emma is everything I wanted in a female lead. She's strong and can take up for herself, yet still has some of those typical teenage weaknesses and flaws that makes you relate to her completely as the story goes." ~ Missy's Reads & Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-written and engaging June 1, 2011
By Brenda
Format:Kindle Edition
Let me start by saying I almost DIDN'T buy this book b/c it was $.99 and that means self-pubbed. Not that there's anything wrong with that...it's just in a lot of self-pubbed stuff I've read, editing and lack thereof can be really distracting (especially to a former English teacher). But, all 5-star reviews convinced me otherwise and I'm happy to add mine to the growing list.

I LOVED this book. I wasn't sure in the first couple of chapters how much I was going to care about the characters. They're a mix of up-and-coming and established Hollywood teen actors working on a modern-day adaptation of Price & Prejudice. The mania that surrounds the filming and the cast had Twilight overtones to me, although that's where the similiarity with that ends (which is a good thing). I liked the dual narration between Reid and Emma, as well as the character development of both. I thought their interaction and internal dialogue were very realistic and they were very believable in the way they handled the situations they confronted, as well as their relationship with each other. And, like others have mentioned, Graham is swoon-worthy, although I don't want to give too much away. But, really, he is.

To sum up...really good book. Sequel is in the works and I can't wait to read it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome =) Great story, couldn't put it down May 30, 2011

If you're considering reading this, I just wanna let you know that you will not be disappointed. I got use to the characters right away and throughout the entire book I found myself rooting for the main character Emma. I don't like reading reviews where they are basically explaining what is happening in the book, I don't want to spoil it for you. But all in all, the book grabbed my attention by the first chapter and I didn't want to put it down. I was skeptical at first, so I downloaded the sample on my kindle, but by the time I was through with the sample, I didn't hesitate for a second to buy the full version, which I believe was only a buck 99.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Avid Reader's Review May 16, 2011
By Yani
Format:Kindle Edition
Mostly when an author approaches me to review their book, it's for a self-published work. I was very wary of reading them at first, but after reading In The Storm by Karen Metcalf I realized that there are some really great self-published works out there. Yes, they might not be the best edited or the most complete well rounded story, but these authors have amazing potential. Some have even more than just potential; they know how to capture a reader. Between the Lines is one of those stories that makes me wonder how it could have not been picked up by some major publishing companies and for that reason it is this months Spread the Word pick. (This is a feature for self-published or small publisher's books to Spread the Word about some great but not well known authors and books)

If you have read Jenna and Jonah's Fauxmance this book will immediately appeal to you. It has that same interesting premise of what it's really like in an actor's and actress's life, and lets just say they don't have it easy. They have family issues, they have lost people, they have been hurt and that's what makes this book so great. I really connected with both Reid and Emma. Though this book was not as I thought it would be -four viewpoints- you still get a bit of everyone's story. You see two parallel lives and you wish the best for both Emma and Reid.

And let me tell you they are funny. Bad boy Reid and sweet Emma, I feel like they are really out there somewhere, their voice was so genuine and real. I loved the distinction when it was Emma's voice, she described everything and her emotion, while Reid the guy voice was sparse and to the point. Even when Reid was a jerk, I knew where he was coming from. And while I love Reid, I complete fell head over heels for Graham.

5.0 out of 5 stars A literary escape May 21, 2011
By KDB
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Tammara Webber creates a realistic world out of one that the media plays up to the point of idealized nonsense. It is interesting to view an alternative perspective of a lifestyle the public loves to pick a part as though actors are simply characters in a real-life soap opera. Webber's work takes a very grounded approach to the world of celebrities, and one of my favorite aspects of the book is the running theme of what constitutes a "normal life" amidst public attention and media scrutiny. Though this work is labeled as YA, I found it to be incredibly fun to read and an enjoyable break from the stuffy, academic studies that take up most of my time. The characters become so real as you read that I found myself despising some while pulling for others. By the time the book ends, I was so caught up in the characters' lives I just wanted to keep reading to find out what happens next. This is a book you'll truly be sad to finish, because it is such an enjoyable and entertaining story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucky Accident June 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was browsing Amazon looking for examples of book blurbs (research for my own novel) when I stumbled across the description of BETWEEN THE LINES. It was only $.99 so I thought "what the hell" and downloaded it even though I have a backlog of "to be read" on my iPad that defies description. I took a break from editing and read the first chapter. Big mistake. I could NOT put this book down. I stayed up all night reading, even though I'm working on a deadline.

At first, I assumed this book was a self-published effort (because of the price) and expected to find all sorts of typos, rambling storylines, and plot holes. Shame on me for my blind prejudice (especially since I'm an indie author, myself). If there were typos, I was too engrossed to notice. The story is well paced and believable. The characters are compelling and I empathized with all of them, even Reid ... a selfish, egotistical kid whose pain still tugs at my heart after finishing the book.

There is a fair amount of strong language, drinking and sexual situations but I have no problem recommending this story as an honest young adult novel. I do, however, feel compelled to warn parents of middle grade kids to read it before deciding if it's appropriate for their children.

Ms. Webber's style and voice remind me of Sarah Dessen and Judy Blume (in a good way). I can't wait to read the sequel and would gladly pay a higher price. The $.99 price point is too low for a work of this quality and entertainment value.

More About the Author

I'm a hopeful romantic who adores novels with happy endings, because there are enough sad endings in real life. Before writing full-time, I was an undergraduate academic advisor, economics tutor, planetarium office manager, radiology call center rep, and the palest person to ever work at a tanning salon. I married my high school sweetheart, and I'm Mom to three adult kids and four very immature cats.
