5.0 out of 5 stars HEAR the BLUES at its STRIPPED-DOWN best
Corey Harris has to be the pride of Alligator records. He has since expanded his music to all kinds of blues and Carribbean-style music and has toured with B.B. King, Ben Harper and others. He deserves to be on the front lines when Blues makes an inevitable comeback.

Skip this 'un and go directly to Fish Ain't Bitin', a vastly superior CD and some great acoustic blues. idon't know where his head was at with this one.

Corey Harris has to be the pride of Alligator records. He has since expanded his music to all kinds of blues and Carribbean-style music and has toured with B.B. King, Ben Harper and others. He deserves to be on the front lines when Blues makes an inevitable comeback.

It is BETWEEN MIDNIGHT AND DAY, however, that shows how good the stripped-down blues can be. I love the stuff he and other blues greats have done with bands, but Harris shines on this album. His voice is a pleasant mix of low-key electricity, baritone southern soul and backwoods gravel. All he needs is this beautiful vioce and a lone guitar to cut out some of the tastiest Delta blues I have heard before or since.

Harris' voice will capture you, take you to the South and give you the real tour. The music is nostolgic, perfect for back-porch listenings in the hottest dog days of August or a quiet December moment alone watching the snow fall. It makes sense for rookie and veteran blues fans to pick this one up. (4.5 stars)

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Delta Blues at it best, June 23, 1999

If this is what the future holds for blues, I can't wait. This a great album, Corey is quite a talent. His sound is similar to Lightin's sound, but better. Definately a buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars True roots acoustic blues, August 24, 1998

I saw Corey Harris open for BB King in 1997, and I thought I'd died and gone to blues heaven. This is the REAL deal: acoustic, driving, soulful blues a la the great masters of old. If you think no one plays blues like that anymore (as I did), you're wrong. Check out this album and be transported to the crossroads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure and simple, June 17, 2011

I had never heard of Corey Harris until recently. I bought this CD and love it. There are other players out there who can play really well, but there are few who can put the real soul and emotion into the vocals. That's what makes this CD different. The playing is great, but the vocal intensity and committment is what does it for me. I recently bought a resonator guitar, and this CD is a real motivator for me to learn to play and sing like Corey.

Just a man and his guitar basically. I love it, but it is so basic that many people would not get it or understand it.

I think Daily Bread is more of an example of his range.
