Wow!,

Although Butterfield did not seem to enjoy this CD, I was plesantly surpised at how incredible Jack Savoretti's voice really is. This is a CD I will more than likely wear out within the next few weeks. I can't wait to hear more from this fantastic talent.

Excellent in every respect,

The music is great. You can listen to samples from the first CD to get a good idea of what's on it, and there are no unpleasant surprises when you hear the full tracks, so I won't go on about Jack and his music. It's unfortunate Amazon doesn't have samples from the second CD in this set because it's excellent as well, though different. Four of the nine tracks are acoustic renditions of songs on the first CD, one is a live recording, and there are four other songs. Everything on the second CD is acoustic, like tracks 4 and 7 of the first CD. If you like the simple, acoustic sound, this 2-CD set is a much better option than the regular 1-CD release. The recording is excellent. Very clean and well balanced. Clean recordings with little or no background noise are really important to me. I often listen to music, as opposed to having music on while I do something else. My listening room is absolutely silent for most of my listening and I like to close my eyes and just listen, so any hiss or background noise is noticeable, especially with material like this, and this recording is great in that respect. You'd think background noise and hiss would be a thing of the past with modern technology, but sadly that's not the case, and it's something I can't really know in advance from online samples, so when I get a CD like this that's well recorded it's always a relief. I even think the artwork is above average. In short, I like everything about this set except the price which currently seems way too high. I ended up getting a used copy from Amazon U.K. and even with shipping from England it was less than what it costs here. CD 1: 50' 58" CD 2: 34' 38" One Man Band 3:35 Russian Roulette 4:34 Without 4:01 Killing Man 4:44 Between the Minds 4:15 Dr. Frankenstein 3:39 Blackrain 2:43 Lucy 4:25 Ring of Fire 2:33 Total time: 1h 25m 36s

For the dreamers,

Being a singer-songwriter fan for years, someone suggested Jack Savoretti to me. I'd never heard of him, so i checked him out on youtube and fell in love with his song Dreamers immediately.Next thing I knew, I had ordered both of his albums on Amazon. I can not explain what his music did to me upon hearing it for the first time, the emotions it drew from me. With his 70's James Taylor style looks Savoretti easily takes on all of life's aspects from life to love and from politicians and war to the true meaning of life. And talking about James Taylor, Jack easily fits in with Taylor's generation of some of the best singer-songwriters this world has (had): Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Carly Simon, Carole King, Nick Drake, Simon & Grafunkel (and James Taylor of course). One also has to agree that the artwork alone is a reason to buy this cd, it's the reason they call this stuff ARTwork! And while you're checking out Jack, get yourself a copy of his follow up Harder Than Easy as well. You won't be disappointed! Jack Savoretti is a unique artist who needs to be treasured!!

This is better than 99.9% of what you have heard in your musical journey or are listening to currently due to his voice and the extraordinary melodies. I listen for these two critical elements...voice and melody....yes a few, very few, of the lyrics may be too earnest for the 5% most discerning who listen for poetic reasons. This is why Jack Johnson, David Grey, and Patty Griffin are so loved....unique voice but most especially melody! There are at least 8 great songs on this album and if you do not like this album....there is a serious problem with your ears....and there are at least three songs with exceptional story telling or poetic skill. I defy any thinking person not to be moved and intrigued by the story in the lyrics of "Once Upon a Street"...likewise "Between the Minds" is as good a modern poem as most will read this year. Jack's voice is better than 99% of what you have ever heard and if you give this album a chance, it will be one of your very favorites of all time....You will tell everyone who cares about MUSIC...melody with voice... with good to great songwriting... to get it...this is the beauty of how viruses of the mind spread...sad that there are some who will never savor the beauty of this album. If you like any of the artists I mentioned (as well as Howie Day or Steven Kellogg) you will truly savor this album. Yes, it is earnest but the way earnest should be....with exceptional melody and voice. If I am wrong, e-mail me and I will buy your copy from you if you truly don't like it! AMDG!

I just can't stop listening to Jack Savoretti. The CD is great and in a good way I can't believe these songs are current productions. He has a great sound that I'm sure will be popular for generations.

Jack Savoretti's music drew so much emotion from me that I could not wait to promote him. I am loaning the two CD's I bought to everyone just to give them the chance to hear him. His lyrics provide an incisive view into the human heart which, with all it's nuances, changes, and evolutions, could never be an exhausted topic. Honest and soulful, his voice and poetry will resonate with the heartstrings of those who study the science of what it means to be human.

Trying too hard,
By

So is Jack Savoretti just another earnest but dull young songwriter like Jack Johnson, Findlay Brown, James Blunt et al? The short answer, I'm afraid, is yes.Mind you, if you're a fan of this kind of thing, you'll probably love Mr Savoretti's take on the genre. Undeniably he has a nice voice: tuneful, velvety, breathy and ever so sincere. I find his delivery a bit out of date though. He puts such an effort into every song, desperate to convince us, and it wears you out after two or three tracks. By the time we get to a relatively promising track like `Chemical Courage' it's hard to go along with what he's singing; he's lost us by then. The trouble is that the words he's labouring over are pretty ordinary - just a typical bunch of pseudo-emotive love songs and confessionals. I'd expect to hear them as the backdrop to some epic movie, perhaps while the main character rides on horseback through the wilderness to find his lover. The fulsome production on every track doesn't exactly help. At least some start with acoustic guitar, but most degenerate into a Eurovision style wall of sound. I was looking for more than a nice voice but didn't find it. These are fairly unremarkable songs about the usual things. A lack of originality is the biggest weakness for me. Add to this a total lack of humour or quirkiness (except on `Lovely Fool' just because he reminds me of Demis Roussos for a moment) and the result is a bland, if inoffensive album that you're probably going to hear through the tinny speakers of many a department store. |
