4.0 out of 5 stars Breezy indie pop
You don't work for two decades in music without picking up some chops, and Josh Lattanzi certainly has. The Candles is basically he and some friends in the studio between tours, and it's chock full of competence. Which is about all you're going to get out of it, it's not like this is some kind of new sound or something, it's just basic pop, with nice melodies and a good...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Candles CD
I saw the The Candles at the Paradise Rock Club in January.
They are from NY and were guite good. Its a shame it took
so long to find out about this band and I wish I could've
seen them earlier.Thats why Radio needs to explore music
and not the same damn freakin tunes every 3hrs.Or 2hrs!
So Im glad I got the CD.I wish them luck in the future.

The Candles is basically he and some friends in the studio between tours, and it's chock full of competence. Which is about all you're going to get out of it, it's not like this is some kind of new sound or something, it's just basic pop, with nice melodies and a good solid beat. There are influences from everywhere, like a bit of Tom Petty in "Between the Sounds", but that could be said of a lot of jangly indie like this I suppose. I wouldn't say there's a killer song on the CD, but there's no duds either. Very pleasant when you're in a good mood and you want something cheerful in the air, check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Road Song" an American Classic, December 1, 2010
This review is from: Between the Sounds (Audio CD)
There is absolute pop brilliance in the hooks and melodies and execution of "The Road Song" - a song that distills the American canon of pop-rock-country into a complete, under-3 minute package of guitars, singing, and world-class hooks.
Of course the song stops too soon, the rest of the songs appear to be far less dynamic and hook-laden, but in "The Road Song," Lattanzi and Co. have achieved classic status.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lemonheads, continued and even improved, November 24, 2010

This is an excellent CD. I saw this band open for Evan Dando and the current Lemonheads in a small Asbury Park venue (The Saint), and they were as great live as on the CD. The Candles begin where the Lemonheads leave off, with a rich melodic alternative sound. The quality of the tracks is consistently good. As the other reviewer noted, there is not not a dud on the CD.
