3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings about The Beverly Hills Diet
The Beverly Hills Diet by Judy Mazel, gives a great deal of insight into food, enzymes and how to maximize the "power of the pineapple"! The Beverly Hills Diet by Judy Mazel, gives a great deal of insight into food, enzymes and how to maximize the "power of the pineapple"! I first tried this diet in the summer of 1982, and lost thirty pounds, keeping twenty off for over 10 years. The problem was that I couldn't stay on the diet for more than 8 or 9 days at a time before becoming violently ill. Ms. Mazel's idea of using fruits to compensate for bad eating days, as encouraged in this book, has stuck with me over the years, and I use it to this day. The diet is updated and far healthier in her New Beverly Hills Diet book, but having read and tried both, I can tell you the results are not as instantly gratifying in the new version.

4.0 out of 5 stars Li.......Three pounds the first Day! Wow!, December 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Beverly Hills Diet (Library Binding)
My best friend raved about this book so of course I had to try it for myself. I just started the diet yesterday(12/7/98), but I got on the scale this morning and I was already 3 pounds lighter. That's nothing to sneeze at, in my book. My tongue was a little sensitive from eating so much pineapple, but that's mostly gone. One tip for people who try it: SKIP THE MAZEL DRESSING and just use olive oil and spices on the LTO salad. Your tastebuds will thank you for it, believe me. I'll review again as I get further into the diet. I hope it keeps working so well.

1.0 out of 5 stars book has misinformation, June 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Beverly Hills Diet (Library Binding)
I read the book cover to cover. Lost 7 pounds in 5 days which was encouraging. Am a health-care professional, and wanted more info. from author re: lack of protein etc. As previously stated in these comments, the Web site is indeed non-existant, 1-800 number is also out of order. Seattle tel. number(Club Slim) belongs to the residence of a gentleman who says that if the message is for Judy Mazel, don`t leave it. This is not just lack of support and misinformation. It is scandalous and frightening. What kind of confidence can one have in the value and authenticity of this program, if this kind of misinformation exists. I definitely stopped the diet and will return to what I think is a more healthful way of reducing.

I weren't feeling good for a long time. The reson was my extra weight that has gone up as I reached my thirties. Now I feel much better after I learned how the body and food mechanisim work. 'Thanks Judy'. It is a great book which contain simple but vluable information. Last year I lost 22 Pounds in 4 weeks. Now I eat all type of food but when I gain some weight, I follow the program in one single day and get back to the ultimate weight easly. I hope Judy can join us here so we can address some questions to her directly. If someone knows her internet e-mail I would appriciate it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks Judy!, August 14, 2000

Both my mom and I lost 20 pounds the first time we did this diet. I was never hungry and I love her idea that "nothing is leaving the planet". I feel healthy and have a lot of energy. I have been giving this book to my friends for presents. I like the day by day pep talk. It helps to learn slowly the proper way to eat. A lot of diets do not teach you how to eat after you lose your weight. Judy talks constantly about maintenance and prepares you for when you finish the diet. Thanks Judy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Try it! It could work miracles for you., November 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Beverly Hills Diet (Library Binding)
This book (and Judy's system) have gotten a lot of slams, for what I think is no good reason. Most people who slam it don't seem to really understand the theory she is proposing. It doesn't make you protein-deficient. And the all-fruit days are only at the beginning. (We have way too much protein in our diets anyway, thanks to the meat and dairy associations.) She is frequently misquoted and maligned because she is not a scientist. I have used this diet and, when it is followed, it works miracles. It isn't for eveyone, especially people with sensitive stomaches. But if you can tolerate high-acid fruits, like pineapple, it is a godsend! (And pineapple is very good for you, by the way, dieting or not.) Of course there are days when you're not crazy about what you're eating! It's a diet, guys! But the fact that you can usually eat however much you want to is a great savior, I think. Also, the way you lose a lot of weight at the beginning is a great motivator. It's basically really healthy. Of course, it's hard to keep up the system after you've lost the weight--this is a challenge with any diet. This one really works if you follow the guidelines.

5.0 out of 5 stars This really works!, January 11, 2001

I have been on diets most of my life and my weight has gone up and down (but mostly up) for years. Until this book came into my hands. It is the first time a book has made real sense to me. It is also the first time I have been encouraged to ... eat on a diet. I have completed the first six weeks and I am continuing as I still have a long way to go. I have lost an incredible 42 pounds so far and I still can't believe how good I feel. My skin and hair look healthier and my nails that used to split are strong and shiny once more. It is true that nothing is leaving the planet and that if you plan for it, nothing is fattening. Thanks Judy!

4.0 out of 5 stars my path to long hoped for nirvana!, June 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Beverly Hills Diet (Library Binding)
I am a diehard believer in the workings of the Beverly Hills diet . Believe it or not , although I am barely 20 years old,I have known about the diet for what seems like ages now. This is probably because it has been passed down to me through four generations of sisters who are true believers like myself. All I know is that it is the only diet I have found able to deliver its promises in the shortest amount of time .The only drawback is ,( I hate to have to contradict myself....)...as a diet to lose a few pounds for an important occassion , its heaven sent , but as a way of life, it is totally out of the question. Take this from a person who knows the BHD inside out.

G. McIntyre "gam67" (the USA for now, but the Camargue in my heart...) - See all my reviews

First, let me get all of MY negative thoughts on the diet out of the way: it's expensive... dried apricots withOUT sulfur dioxide is pricey, and unless you live in a tropical area, the amazing enzyme-packed fruits you need to consume can slim down your wallet too. Next, it sort of gives you permission to indulge, and to me, that mindset can be dangerous, but maybe that's just a result of having strict parents & living in a puritanical society... I usually felt very guilty during the diet! :) Now to address the naysayers, you did truly not read the overall intent of Ms. Mazel. You probably have a difficult time with seeing the big picture in a lot of instances, don't you? Judy's concepts make ALOT of sense. She's practical, truthful, and it's a pity she caved and gave in to producing that Part II 'updated' version of the diet to make some people happy. She doesn't promote exercise, but she doesn't need to~ she's blessed in that department apparently. Maybe YOU do... I know *I* do... OK, so you get a little bit of the runs after the first week? if it comes to that? why not! your body is ridding itself of toxins my dear... the cleansing step is working. Your skin especially will thank you.

Also I love the fact that the Beverly Hills Diet promotes carbs, and there's NOT a lack of protein... the concept is called conscious combining Carbohydrates fuel your body! No substitutes, and like she says, you've got to approach it logically~ a Krispy Kreme donut is obviously a carb, and certainly you can have it when it's time, but where are the nutritional values? the concept of conscious combining is exactly what the body needs. Frankly, I'm just waiting for the Atkins ball to drop. There's going to be mass liver & kidney failure the likes of which we've never seen before all over the place, and soon. How can your body process so much protein~ all the time?! oh weeee'll seeeee... if Judy's smart she will capitalize on this sad yet brilliant opportunity to push BHD again!
