Pros: great sound for an on-the-ear headphone! They broke in quite nicely in what little time I used them. Bases can sound a little "tin-canny" at first. The headphones themselves fit just fine on my ears, they don't press too much, and aren't too loose on my head, which makes them great to have on for prolonged periods of time. I could hear the music, and if needed, I could drop down the volume a tad, and hear the ambient atmosphere around me as well. They do dampen sounds around you, but not quite as much as noise cancelling headphones.

Cons: the cable on headphones seems a bit flimsy, but it carries the signal just fine. Within the first MONTH of me just having the headphones on my head, not closing/opening them constantly, the little plastic arm that holds one of the individual earphones broke. I didn't force the headphones to close; I just kept them in the open position on my desk, that's all. My head isn't big, they don't feel too tight, so I don't think my noggin caused the breakage. I attribute that to poor manufacturing, and beyerdynamic refuses to service the headphones.

Overall, great sounding headset with a cheapy-flimsy poor construction and a shoddy warranty practicing manufacturer.

On Aug. 11th 2011, I purchased/ordered a new set of beyerdynamic DTX 300p portable stereo headphones.
Hands down, they are the best headphones I've ever used. Great full, rich sound and not taxing on the eardrums at all.
Only problem, as I was unfolding them just now, one of the ear pieces broke of at the point of attachment.
I've always been very gentle with them, esp. considering I couldn't afford to replace $51.92 headphones very often.
In short, they are broken and I've had them just over two months.
They do come with a manufacturer's two year warranty, if that's any consolation.
Hoping I can upgrade to a pair of comparable non-folding headphones from beyerdynamic.
Proceed with caution on this particular model.
Three stars: five for sound reproduction, minus two for fragile design.
*note of irony. My friend that recommended these, his exact same set also broke (after I'd already purchased mine).

I got these as a gift and was immediately excited to try these out. Right out of the box, the construction felt flimsy. While the brushed aluminum headband seems sturdy and the folding arms click firmly into place, the plastic driver housings and their joints feel extremely prone to breaking. Nonetheless, with careful handling, you should be alright. Just don't put these in a backpack you toss around. I do not believe they can handle much of an impact.

After assessing the build, it was time to give them a run. I plugged these straight into a DAC/AMP, dialed up some high-quality audio, and was shocked to hear the excellent quality. The sound signature is well balanced with clear and rich performance in the upper frequencies and "natural" bass response. These headphones do not overly inflect any particular frequency and deliver a thoroughly enjoyable sound, particularly for something so light and compact.

Overall, I would say they are a good deal if you are the type of person who is very careful with their stuff. They fold into a super compact little bundle and include a pouch carrying case. My advice for the rough crowd is to look for an old hard-case for glasses that will fit the dtx300p. This should be more than enough to keep them from being blown to bits in a backpack filled with books.

I went through four of the DTX-300p headphones - with the first three the earpiece broke off on one side and there was no way to tape it up. I got the first one replaced, tossed two of them, and the fourth I use (very carefully!) for computer Skype calls. Even if they didn't break, the bass response varies quite a bit between samples, from almost no bass to very little bass.

Used with an iPod Touch, the overall sound is only slightly better than Apple iPod earbuds. I used the "Rock" EQ setting on the iPod to improve the sound - the same setting I found that worked best with the earbuds.

I'm not familiar with headphones in this price range, other than the DTX-300p, but I would recommend that anyone looking at this stretch their budget a little and get a Sennheiser PX-200-II instead, since the design is about the same but the sound and durability of the Sennheiser is much better.

These headphones are no longer available. I bought them used for $20. However, the package looked as if they had never been used.

I read a few reviews that gave the 300p a mediocre review, but they are the correct ohms for my computer (32) and the right cord length (3m) for me, so I decided to take the risk.

The main part of music is in the middle frequencies. That's where the 300p shines. But if you need to have thundering bass (like I did years ago), you would not be satisfied. I have enjoyed the 300p for hours, especially with acoustic music!

In regards to high frequencies, a lot of modern headphones are better than my aging ears. For my requirements, the 300p are excellent, especially in view of the price. I was considering the DT 880 32 ohm model, and as I was considering which to buy, the price suddenly, in one day, jumped from $170 to $250 and never returned. So not only is the 300p great sounding to me, the low price was a great bargain and an added blessing.
