The Best,

This review is from: Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro-80 Closed Studio Headphones (Electronics)
I graduated to these headphones from Sony MDR-7506 and never looked back. I'm on my second pair now and for $199, they are worth every single cent and more. These headphones completely engulf your ears and are very comfortable, it feels like two pillows resting against your head. I'm a programmer and I wear these babies all day long. What I really like about them is that you can blast your music and it doesn't escape them so you don't annoy the people around you. On the flip side, once you put them on you can't hear ANYTHING from the outside world which is what I like too. As far as the music goes, pretty bassy and especially suited for rap and hard core techo music with a deep bass line. The pure highs are a bit lacking. But this is a bass head's headphone and I love them. They're also as strong as iron. I can throw them around the room, in my backpack, sleep with them. Hell throw them on the wall for no reason and they're as good as new. The only cons I can think about is that they look pretty stupid when you put them on. They're HUGE. But that's the nice thing about being a programmer you can look as ridiculous as you want.

I have owned these for about 2 years now. I use them for comfortable isolation in my work office (lots of noisy open cubes). I prefer these for the office application for the ease of putting them on and taking them off.
I also use Shure E4C in-ears...I have to use the foam inserts for these, so they are hard to insert. Downside is that they are a bit bulky and heavy, and can be hot during the summer months. Also, they are not the most portable headphones, but they are sturdy. The cable is also long and sturdy. Overall, I am pleased, but would like less boomy bass, more isolation (-30dB isn't enough!) The top end is fairly clear, not harsh or muffled, and not fatiguing for long hours of listening. Sounds good on everything from classical to prog rock to jazz.

Very impressive for the price,

Let me say right away that I really like these headphones. I like most consumers read reviews and researched for weeks before I settled on the 770-Pro 80's. I need something to use while working at my computer to watch and listen to movies, music, and tutorials. These definitely work well for each application. I wanted closed headphones to seal out external noise but not the leather or pleather cushions that make you sweat over time. The velour pads on these are extremely comfortable but don't seal out the noise as effectively as leather...but they still work well though. I have extremely sensitive ears and notice the most subtle sounds; drives my wife crazy when I tell her I can hear her blinking at night or try to point out to her a new noise that our van is making.
These headphones do very well IMHO to reveal the tiniest nuances in music and movies. I prefer accurate, clean bass as opposed to the booming noise that is so prevalent today. These definitely satisfied my taste in the clean bass arena; they go low but don't break apart. The highs and mids are detailed and airy, not harsh or piercing. Finally the headband is very comfortable for my average size noggin. Even after hours of use, you might forget you're wearing them. Anyway, hope this review helps someone.
