5.0 out of 5 stars The Best
I graduated to these headphones from Sony MDR-7506 and never looked back. I'm on my second pair now and for $199, they are worth every single cent and more. These headphones completely engulf your ears and are very comfortable, it feels like two pillows resting against your head. I'm a programmer and I wear these babies all day long. 2.0 out of 5 stars Great quality, but dissapointing transducer rattle.
Extremely disappointing on how i received my headphones. They arrived in perfect brand new condition and when i hooked them into my headphone amp to test them, they were rattling like crazy at the mid bass frequencies. Almost like a paper rattle sound, It's not huge sound but it's extremely noticeable on songs. Also makes it impossible for me to edit music with it doing...

What I really like about them is that you can blast your music and it doesn't escape them so you don't annoy the people around you. On the flip side, once you put them on you can't hear ANYTHING from the outside world which is what I like too. As far as the music goes, pretty bassy and especially suited for rap and hard core techo music with a deep bass line. The pure highs are a bit lacking. But this is a bass head's headphone and I love them. They're also as strong as iron. I can throw them around the room, in my backpack, sleep with them. Hell throw them on the wall for no reason and they're as good as new. The only cons I can think about is that they look pretty stupid when you put them on. They're HUGE. But that's the nice thing about being a programmer you can look as ridiculous as you want.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good sound, good isolation, good comfort, April 16, 2009
This review is from: Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro-80 Closed Studio Headphones (Electronics)
I have owned these for about 2 years now. I use them for comfortable isolation in my work office (lots of noisy open cubes). I prefer these for the office application for the ease of putting them on and taking them off.

I also use Shure E4C in-ears...I have to use the foam inserts for these, so they are hard to insert.

Downside is that they are a bit bulky and heavy, and can be hot during the summer months. Also, they are not the most portable headphones, but they are sturdy. The cable is also long and sturdy.

Overall, I am pleased, but would like less boomy bass, more isolation (-30dB isn't enough!) The top end is fairly clear, not harsh or muffled, and not fatiguing for long hours of listening. Sounds good on everything from classical to prog rock to jazz.

5.0 out of 5 stars A swell purchase for those who must have bass, November 26, 2010
This review is from: Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro-80 Closed Studio Headphones (Electronics)
Let me start off by saying this is a very good quality pair of headphones. If you are an audiophile, point your snob-infested head somewhere else.

Sound: Coming from stereo systems with room-shaking 12" subs, it is not easy to acclimate to any pair of headphones let alone bass-light ones. That's why I sold my Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones two weeks after receiving them. The M50 lacked chutzpah in the lower range of frequencies even when equalized. The Beyer DT770 pro/80s are a different story. The bass is clean and smooth down to 30hz, which is as good extension as any sub, but the DT770 unequalized have very muddy unimpressive midbass with harsh sibilance-filled highs. The simple solution to this problem is to use an equalizer. Equalizing is not the be-all end-all for sound systems, but it is often overlooked. In iTunes, I turned the 32hz and 64hz ranges up about 2db, the 125hz down 2db, 250hz down 1db, and the 8khz down 1db (turned the preamp down to avoid distortion). This basic EQ, makes the DT770 sound very similar to the M50 in the mid/high range, but gives the bass a subwoofer feel. On ipods there are no EQ's like this, but DT770 are mostly for home use in any case. The mids on the DT770 will always be more muffled than the M50, but you can use an EQ to accentuate mids somewhat. The highs, after equalization, are more accurate than any dome tweeter I have heard.

Comfort: I can wear DT770 for 3-4 hours at a time unlike the M50 which were only good for an hour or two.

Value: I got mine used for $80 on eBay, but for $200 new it is worth taking a look at. Two other top contenders in the bass headphones market that I've heard about are the Sony MDR-XB700 ($80) and Ultrasone HFI-580 ($180), which have drastically different sound but hold their own quite well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Headphones!, August 1, 2011

I've started to compose music digitally and have used the SD280s...these blow those out of the water! Sooo much better sound quality and the comfort is excellent as well! I tried out the M50s which also sounded pretty good...but these beat them out by far in terms of comfort and the sound quality is comparable or better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressive for the price, July 7, 2011

Let me say right away that I really like these headphones. I like most consumers read reviews and researched for weeks before I settled on the 770-Pro 80's. I need something to use while working at my computer to watch and listen to movies, music, and tutorials. These definitely work well for each application. I wanted closed headphones to seal out external noise but not the leather or pleather cushions that make you sweat over time. The velour pads on these are extremely comfortable but don't seal out the noise as effectively as leather...but they still work well though. I have extremely sensitive ears and notice the most subtle sounds; drives my wife crazy when I tell her I can hear her blinking at night or try to point out to her a new noise that our van is making.

These headphones do very well IMHO to reveal the tiniest nuances in music and movies. I prefer accurate, clean bass as opposed to the booming noise that is so prevalent today. These definitely satisfied my taste in the clean bass arena; they go low but don't break apart. The highs and mids are detailed and airy, not harsh or piercing. Finally the headband is very comfortable for my average size noggin. Even after hours of use, you might forget you're wearing them. Anyway, hope this review helps someone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent headphones, July 29, 2010
This review is from: Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro-80 Closed Studio Headphones (Electronics)
I tried on a bunch of headphones "under or around $200" at Guitar Center, and found these to be the most comfortable by far. My initial impression seemed to be right. I wear these for a few hours every day either listening to or writing music with my computer. They seem to produce less volume than other brands, which for me is fine, I just turn up the volume a few notches. This could cause problems if you're using them for tracking while playing drums I suppose. Buy these if you're looking for an extremely comfortable, very clear and accurate listening experience. There are better headphones out there, but these are as good as you'll get for around $200.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfy as can be, with amazing sound., May 12, 2010

i love these cans when listening to dubstep... they rock. not as big a fan for listening to acoustic or rock, simply because i have a different pair that i think sound better for those types of music.

i will say that these are phenomenal for gaming. i love Unreal Tournament 3, and it sounds awesome. first cans that dont sound like absolute hell when you are sitting in a tank and it explodes. these actually can put out all that bass. very refreshing. plus, all the gun noises, from switching, picking up, shooting... everything sounds good. footsteps and enemies picking up things is very prominent, and the soundstage is surprisingly good. you can tell how far away people are, if not precisely where they are.

COMFY! these are truly as comfortable as i can imagine a headphone being.

previously, i had said that i really hated the sound. im not sure if i wasnt powering them right or what, but they are very nice sounding headphones. i would warn people, however, that these will not sound very good straight out of an ipod or out of a computer's normal headphone jack. you want to have a x-fi titanium, which i have and works amazing with these, or some other sound card that puts out more power to your headphones.

If you listen to bass-heavy music, these are great. If you want more balance and clarity go elsewhere, but these are perfect for bassheads.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Sound, very comfortable, January 16, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro-80 Closed Studio Headphones (Electronics)
I came near buying this Beyerdynamic model of Headphones about a year ago. Back then, they were more expensive. They are less expensive now. By the way, everyone should be aware that they come in a 360 ohm version as well, and that submodel is more audiophile oriented, but requires a headphone amplifier to bring it up to volume.

I had previously been using the Sony MDR-7506 models for about 3 years. And the MDR-7506s are good sounding but extremely uncomfortable if you wear them for long periods of time. In the summer, they are sweaty also because of their plastic ear pads.

I am happy with my purchase of the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro-80 Ohms because they are so much more comfortable when wearing them for longer periods of time. The sound is good, but tends to sound a bit distorted at louder volumes. The overall craftsmanship of DT770s is way above the MDR-7506s. I have owned three pairs MDR-7506s now and they are going downhill fast in my opinion (sad for such a Iconic model). The MDRs have two basic problems, the plastic ear pads crack & the plastic flakes off (you can replace the ear pads, but 2 or 3 times a year?), and their coiled chord gets shorted very easily. The DT770s do not do this, at least so far; they are much sturdier in construction.

Sound-wise, the DT770s are fuller, bassier, but without some of the full mid range detail of the MDRs. Neither Headphone is superior (sonically), just that they have different strong points & weak points, but, in terms of construction, I am done with the MDRs.

In stores, I tried many types of Headphones for comfort and the Beyerdynamic DT770s are the tops.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressed, January 8, 2012

These headphones are excellent. I tried many different headphones (Sennheiser 558, Sennheiser 598, Denon A1100, Grado S225i, Audio Technica A900) before settling on these. Out of all the ones I tried they were the most comfortable and sounded the best. Such an upgrade from my Creative Fatal1ty headphones!
