Book Description

June Thomson and Giselle Ross are inextricably linked by two unspeakable acts of evil. On the same day, a few miles apart, their estranged husbands slaughtered their children. The murders were not driven by rage, or committed in moments of madness. They were planned, and carried out with chilling precision, to inflict the worst pain imaginable.

une and Giselle did not know each other. Tragedy is all that binds them; they were destined to come together as ‘sisters’, united by pain, grief and a sense of loss so immense that it would drive both to the brink of madness.

June’s life with Rab Thomson had been a dark and turbulent existence, characterised by mental torture, physical violence and rape. Giselle’s relationship with Ashok Kalyanjee had been a strange and distant affair, of lives spent apart before, during and after marriage.

But both relationships had produced two beautiful children, and the women believed that their misery was in the past. Both mothers believed it was important to allow the fathers’ access to their children. On that fateful Saturday in May 2008, neither could have conceived that the men they had once loved would do anything to harm their children. But they were wrong, so terribly wrong.

Nothing can bring their children back. But June and Giselle have one solitary comfort: they are no longer alone. Their lives may have been torn apart, but they have each other. Together, they are stronger.

This is the story of their parallel journeys: of the dreadful days before, during, and after the murders of their children. Told in their own words, with searing honesty of their pain, and guilt, it is a story of endurance, friendship, and survival against the odds. It is not a story for the faint hearted, but it is a story that must be told, for in the end, it is a testament to the human spirit.

About the Author

June Thomson was born in Ayrshire. Growing up in a broken home left her with a legacy of loneliness and isolation. When she met and married Rab Thomson she mistook his jealousy for love. She soon learned it was a need to control her. June endured 27 years with a man who beat and raped her. When she finally found the courage to leave, Rab took a hellish revenge.

Giselle Ross was born in Glasgow into a home so loving that she did not leave until she was 32 years old. She was swept off her feet by devious charmer Ashok Kalyanjee. He persuaded her to elope and then quickly isolated her from her family. The relationship was doomed before it began, but when Giselle broke free, there was an appalling price to pay.

Marion Scott and Jim McBeth are a husband and wife team, helping June and Giselle to tell their story. Marion is an award-winning journalist with Scotland’s biggest newspaper, The Sunday Mail. As well as winning accolades for her campaigning work on child abuse issues and miscarriages of justice, she has won the Campaigning Journalist of the Year award. Jim has been writing for national newspapers for 43 years. He currently works for the Daily Mail. He has also contributed to a number of national television and BBC radio documentaries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not an easy read but too often an essential one... January 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I wish every woman in an abusive relationship and thinking about getting married "because he will change" can get to read this book before she takes that leap into this abyss of a psychotic world. On their initial meeting one of the woman says "she was chosen", both were since the scary part is the uncanny sense these predators have in identifying, almost immediately and with an almost extra-sensory ability, vulnerable woman who they just know they will be able to dominate and terrorize at will. The constant question asked of these woman is why did you stay? Read the book and you will grasp the mental prisons that these men confine their woman in - it is as impregnable as the bars of Alcatraz. I balk at the lenient sentences handed down to these monsters; this is an act of murder which should carry the death penalty.

5.0 out of 5 stars A harrowing account November 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the story of two women, who live different lives, but share the tragedy of losing children at the hands of their husbands. Told in the words of June and Giselle, the remarkably reslient women, the format is different to many books about true crime. In both cases I found myself drawn into their stories, to the point of tears, as they describe their lives with the husbands and their beautiful children. When they tells us of the events, on the day of the murders, I could not hold back the tears. Michelle, Ryan, Paul and Jay-Jay were beautiful children who brought joy to their families, and their horrific murders were almost too much to read about. Mercifully these two women have survived to tell their stories. I cannot imagine the pain of their loss, which I am sure continues still, but I applaud their courage in living through it and even reliving much of it to bring their stories to us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional, maddening, inspiring. January 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Giselle and June are truly two of the most inspiring women you will ever read. I simply cannot imagine what they went through at the time and continue to deal with now; yet, in their own words, they find purpose and meaning in that their children will live forever. I literally cried when they did, got angry when they did and then marveled at their resilience in the face of unfathomable terror. Adding insult to injury are the sentences the weaklings received (their names do not deserve mentioning). Appalling that four children are dead and the cumulative sentencing does not amount to 40 years! May God continue to bless you both. Your strength and courage are remarkably admirable.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Book July 8, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My husband was a combination of the two monsters in this book. When I finally left him, he kidnapped our five month old daughter and "gave" her to an elderly couple in another city and he went on to another city with his mistress just to spite me for leaving him. I was lucky. I got my child back, and escaped my nightmare of a marriage in one piece. With tears in my eyes, I read this book in one sitting, it was just that compelling. My child is now forty-four years old, I'm now sixty-three and to this day I am still afraid of getting married again because of what I went through. I applaud these two brave women for sharing their stories. It could have happened to me...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read May 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well done, in terms of reading and flowing. The story is one of complete horror. How anyone can live in the way each of these women did and keep any semblance of sanity is amazing. I pity them both, and also wonder what they are doing today? Not something you live through and just keep going.

This is a very well written story IT IS HARD FOR ME TO EVEN THINK OF

A well written story. It is hard to comprehend this ever happening to your young children, and by their fathers! It is good they have each other for consolation. My heart goes out to both of them.

I would recommend this book to my friends
