5.0 out of 5 stars Interstellar Guitar virtuoso, May 10, 1999
By A Customer
What can you say about this Guitarist and these albums that would do them justice, I have been a Uli Roth fan since the early eighties. I purchased his first two solo albums "Earthquake" and "Firewind" in 1983, the singing did not make me get to excited, but his guitar playing on those albums was awesome, very hendrixy chordal voicings coupled with his unique melodic soloing which he delivers with a beautiful tone, exceptional technique, and wonderful finger and tremolo arm vibrato, one of the few technically advanced players who can play with incredible feel and sensitivity, "not a brutal shredder". I believe "beyond the Astral skies" should be a land mark in musical history,it has phenomenally inspiring music on it, plus more exceptional playing. Uli seems to tap into the same kind of energy that hendrix did,his style is different, but a similar vibe encompasses both these players works. I recommend buying these albums. The last album he made was a departure from his earlier work but if you like classical music blended with rock music this album is equally as good,(keep in mind Prologue to Symphonic Legends is driven more by his song writting talents,he plays sparingly but each solo is great)Have a great day and remember to listen to some Uli jon Roth, he will make your day!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure genious, November 27, 2008
Uli Jon Roth is a true musical genius and one of the first people to capably and effectively combine rock and classical music. While Beyond the Astral Skies is definitely rock there is strong classical influence in many parts. What is truly amazing about this CD is the wide range of emotions Uli makes you feel be it euphoria, sadness, joy, anger, or astonishment. Beyond the Astral Skies was recorded at an interesting point in Uli's career between the point where he was more of a pure rock musician (previous CDs) and the point where he became completely devoted to the art of combining rock and classical. So you get a rock CD with an other worldly feeling to many of the tracks. Anyone who loves beautiful music needs to get Beyond the Astral Skies and the Prologue to the Symphonic Legends / Sky of Avalon CD. Uli Jon Roth is truly one of the great musical geniuses of his generation.

I often come back to this CD. It has come pretty stunning guitar work on it and is so full of musical melodrama. I love it!

I noticed those teenage punks watching "The Night the Master Comes" video. They say it sucks, but I think it is cool. This music is influenced by other artists, like Genesis, Pink Floyd, The Alan Parsons Project, and Spinal Tap. If you are a fan of '70s/'80s prog rock and metal, then this Electric Sun CD would be for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite ULI ROTH record ever!, February 21, 2011

This review is from: Beyond the Astral Skies (Audio CD)
Beyond the Astral Skies is the 3rd record by Uli Jon Roth, after leaving the Scorpions. Originally released in 1984 this album has some of the best Guitar work ever recorded. The music lyrics are that of Peace and Trancendental Spiritualism. Uli touches the Soul with this record and I HIGHLY recommend it to all Vocalists, Guitarists and Fans of Uli "Master of the Sky Guitar" Roth!
The Night The Master Comes, What is Love,WHY, I'll Be There, Return, Icebreaker, I'm a River, Angel Of Peace, Eleison, Son Of Sky. .. every song is very special and hard to name a particular one as the BEST.

For those that like the MODERN METAL GUITAR, Checkout Gus G. and FIREWIND. Named for Uli's 2nd record, Firewind hail from Greece and recently added Michael Ehre (Uli's Drummer) to their lineup. Gus G. dedicates every record to Uli for the inspiration and mentoring.

4.0 out of 5 stars Guitar hero with shades of Wagner, November 25, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Uli Jon Roth made waves as the lead guitarist for the Scorpions in the 1970s. This mid-80s solo album retains much of Roth's fire from the Scorpions days and also hints at the pop/catchiness that one could occasionally hear in that band's ballads (Holiday, Still Loving You). Roth's warm, fuzzy love themes were dated back in the 1980s and have not aged well. But his superior musicianship and the fantastic arrangements contained herein will become guilty pleasures for the uninitiated and objects of admiration for guitar geeks.
