Gabriela Montero is a protege of Marta Argerich, the Argentinian pianist who is continuing the tradition of great virtuosi from that nation. Montero has a luminous, rounded, golden tone that is, to my ears, unique and very seductive. Her Bach is not for those expecting austere, dry, silvery sound. This is lush music, as if Bach left cold, damp Germany and took up residence in sunny Argentina. Her blend of Bach themes is pure joy. Her version of a Bach invention as a tango is...inventive! Try it out.
