Book Description

March 20, 2008
Just when 25-year-old Maria Beaumont thinks her social life and career are cool, her boyfriend dumps her and her museum boss hands her "mission impossible." Recover? Succeed? Date again? Echoes of a critical mom, cantankerous coworker, and opinionated friend dog her as she heads in the direction of new, unexpected voices. As Maria balances today's workplace challenges, fuzzy dating rules, and her own dreams, she proves savvier than anyone expects, surprising even herself. Will she choose the dashing Italian artist, Leo, the genial high school teacher, Bill, or her dream of studying art in Europe? I thought about Maria and her friends long after I finished reading this novel. Where will Maria's new choices lead? I want to know what happens next! ~ Vanessa Boss An engaging story of friendship and self-discovery. Set in picturesque South Haven, Michigan, and fictitious Chicago suburb, Cherryvale, Beyond Betrayal is entertaining, energetic, and funny. ~ Joanne Magoc Jane Hoppe is a freelance writer who creatively shares what she's learned about work, emotional healing, relationships, and life dreams. Her entertaining stories engage readers in the everyday relational decisions that shape our lives. Living in the Midwest, Jane knows and loves the areas of Michigan and Illinois where this story is set. She also loved working in a small museum, much like the one where Beyond Betrayal's Maria Beaumont works. www.janehoppe.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read!!, October 24, 2008
This review is from: Beyond Betrayal (Paperback)
Beyond Betrayal takes the reader into the life of 25-year-old Maria and all the ups and downs she experiences with friends, boyfriends, a job, and family. Author Jane Hoppe does a fabulous job of allowing the reader into the inner thoughts of Maria and how she handles relationships and challenges.
I enjoyed the book so much I bought one for each of my 20-something daughters. The story moves at a comfortably quick pace while also offering some direction in making those big-life decisions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging Tale, September 20, 2008
This review is from: Beyond Betrayal (Paperback)
Jane Hoppe's lovely novel, Beyond Betrayal, is charming in its intimacy and honesty with the characters and engaging in its exploration of themes that most of us have dealt with at some time in our lives--or that many might be dealing with as they read. Hoppe has created interesting characters that one comes to care about, and situations that one can identify with, from a critical mother to complex coworkers to choices about love and career. She avoids offering pat answers, and even allows the reader to consider how she or he might respond to the emotional ups and downs.

I'd particularly recommend this for young women who need someone to identify with as they go through this stage themselves (Maria is in her early 20s and making decisions about life)-- even if they don't have the betraying boyfriend to kick off the action. In fact, the betrayal is just a jumping off point, the thing that needs healing, but the book is not about the boyfriend. It is about healing and moving on.
