Six Feet Lower Than Most: Louis and Gerald Garzone, two brothers who owned and operated a Philadelphia funeral home, were found guilty of selling corpses to a black market trafficker of body parts. Varla Ventura's BEYOND BIZARRE, FRIGHTENING FACTS AND BLOOD-CURDLING TRUE TALES is a sequel of sorts to her 2008 volume BOOK OF THE BIZARRE. Published in 2010, BEYOND BIZARRE offers up 304 pages of oddball trivia, myths, beliefs and what-not.

Ventura sorts her bag of trivia into chapters with titles such as 'Yo, Ho and Up She Rises: Stories from the Sea,' 'Haunted Hollywood,' 'On the Road: Tales from Haunted Highways and Byways,' 'Naturally Strange,' 'Blood-Red Crosses and Gross Anatomy: Hospital Horrors,' 'Strange America,' etc.

Among the trivia bits to be found in the book are scary amusement rides, the Thames River Frost Fair, the Arizona woman who had a worm living in her head, the five most dangerous magic tricks, the 1919 Boston molasses disaster, animal symbols, bat bombers, the strange names celebs give to their offspring, America's Cheasie lake monster, ancient Roman cures for baldness, etc.

Hardcore trivia buffs will be familiar with some of the material found in BEYOND BIZARRE. However, there's enough new items to make Ventura's book an appealing - and inexpensive ($6.98 at B&N) - purchase. Recommended.

Good read when you don't have a lot of time. Passages are short so you don't have to remember where you left off. The book is loaded with bizarre facts that cover a lot of different subjects. If you like things that are strange and boarder on eerie then you'll enjoy this book.

After reading The Book of The Bazaar, I couldn't wait to read Varla's newest work. It is perfect for the ADHD brain, one interesting little tid bit after another. I love it, and would encourage friends to read it as well.
