Sound quality... of the highest order, P-Vine release!,

This review is from: Beyond Body & Soul (Audio CD)
Japan's great reissue label, P-Vine has once again reissued (1st reissue was not availible through normal distribution routes outside Japan) on cd, the very rare (and pricey original vinyl lp if located) Soul Generation album. The album originally released in 1972 on the small, obscure Newark, NJ based label Ebony Sounds Records, is a masterpiece of "East Coast Sweet Soul", and a classic upon release! The 45 rpm, (If I Had A) "Million Dollars" need answer "role call" in and old school soul record collection, if collection owner considers themselves "officer" rank! For those in the know, the group's great falsetto lead singer Cliff Perkins, earned his own folklore legend as other great soul harmony falsetto leads of the day had. Which old-schoolers don't remember "That's The Way It's Got To Be" (Body & Soul), "In Your Way", "Super Fine", etc., etc., etc? Regarding sweet soul albums of the early 70s, this album is first ballot entry into what would be the "Sweet Soul Hall Of Fame"! There are differences between the other cds availible on the market containing the music of Soul Generation and this one. The Collectibles label release contains more tracks and the Sequel (UK) label release "Battle Of The Bands" (the better of the two)contains fewer tracks. However, the real difference is in the sound quality! The sound quality on this cd is of the highest order! The digital remastering acheived here allows those in possession to hear the music at a clarity level that's crystal clear, a level not attained on the aforementioned releases. This cd also contains 4 non-album songs not on the other cds. Despite having the other cds and the original album, the writer obtained the P-Vine cd upon release, the first time. The sound quality of the P-Vine release made the decision a given! It's the one I play. This one, packaged as a slip case is availible worldwide. Regarding East Coast Sweet Soul, this lp ranks a 5 star, and without doubt is a must in any sweet soul music collection calling itself such. Not in possession? It's Buy Time!
