Far reaching ramifications of industrialized agriculture,
This review is from: Beyond Closed Doors: Science, Ethics and Politics of Farm Animal Welfare (DVD)
Beyond Closed Doors is a departure from most approaches to the issue of factory farming. While footage of confinement systems is shown, it is used only to inform the viewer of the reality, not as shock value.
The variety of experts interviewed is truely impressive, ranging from scientists, ranchers, veterinarians, academics and more. Segments featuring organizations such as the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Humane Association, are particulary thought provoking as both refused to answer any direct questions pertaining to factory farming. The film evaluates numerous aspects of modern agriculture while always keeping the viewer aware of the bigger picture and how these issues can actually affect our lives and our democratic system of government. Ultimately the pragmatic approach of the filmmaker leads to a documentary that is hard hitting yet not condescending or inflamatory. The film is a fresh approach to issues that rarely receive in depth treatment in the media.

This was an amazing (and non-graphic) depiction of the polictical system and the complex distortions of the way the meat industry is portrayed. I highly recommend it!
