5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic Suspense at its Best!, July 14, 2009
This review is from: Beyond the Code of Conduct (Paperback)
Looking for romance? Looking for suspense? Looking for an outstanding book with tons of conflict and complex characters?

You'll find all that and more in "Beyond the Code of Conduct", the second book in the Sullivan Boys series by the sister writing team known as K.M. Daughters.

A vicious attack on Bobbie Leighton's life destroyed her relationship with Joe Sullvian and left Joe permanently impaired. Now an FBI agent working in New York, Bobbie returns to Chicago to discuss the possibility that a baby trafficking case she is working on may have a connection to Joe's brother's murder.

Joe is determined to find out why Jimmy died and to bring his killer to justice. Joe and Bobbie go undercover as a rich cattle rancher and his arm candy wife looking to adopt a baby from a slick Park Avenue lawyer. Forced to live with one another day by day, Joe and Bobbie struggle to resist their feelings for one another. Can they overcome their past? And can they bring a murderer to justice before they become the next target on a killer's victims list?

Romantic suspense just doesn't get any better than this! "Beyond the Code of Conduct" opens with Bobbie showing up at Jimmy Sullivan's funeral and getting an icy reception from Joe. The authors immediately draw you right into the conflict and it doesn't stop until the very end. These characters are pushed beyond their limits every step of the way. You feel that pull between Joe and Bobbie, that fine line they walk between just working together and resisting the temptation to be together in a more meaningful way. You witness how much of an obstacle their past remains. And you want them to nab the bad guy as much as they do.

I've now read the last chapter three times and each time it gets better, is more touching and even more satisfying than the first.

While the strength of this book is definitely its complex characters, the gripping story keeps you turning page after page. I couldn't put the book down. I read it cover to cover in one night. At 180 pages, it's the perfect book to take on vacation or to read on a long car ride.

"Beyond the Code of Conduct" is romantic, it's filled with suspense, and its one book that I would love to read again.

This book takes a look at Joe Sullivan and you learn he is just as cool as all the other Sullivans. The undercover operation is fun and full of adventure but at the same time takes care of buisness. Great follow up book!

After reading Against Doctors Orders, I could not wait get into Beyond the Code of Conduct. I was more than happy and surprised that Daughters outdid themselves with the second installment of the series. Again the character development is amazing and I felt like I was standing in their NYC apartment while all this was happening. Great Book by Great Author

FBI Agency brass and Sullivan family connections force Special Agent Bobbie Leighton into an undercover operation with inactive Homicide Detective Joe Sullivan. Posing as a wealthy Texas cattleman and his arm-candy wife the two are assigned to infiltrate Bradley Sterling's black-market operation. Suspected of baby trafficking, Sterling may be connected with Jimmy Sullivan's murder. How do Bobbie and Joe adhere to their professional code of conduct living under the same roof? Can they forget their personal history, ignore their volatile feelings for each other and ensnare their target when they might be next on Sterling's victims list.

Ms. Daughters has done it again with a classic romantic suspense read! This story is hot hot hot! It's the second book in the Sullivan brother's series and it's incredible. It stands on it's own, so if you haven't read the first book, don't worry you will be able to go along with the story, but I assure you, you want to read the first book as well. It's an intriguing plot and the author is able to write the characters to where they seem like real people. You are able to connect with them and feel what they are going through and see what they are seeing. I couldn't have asked for a better read from K.M. Daughters, she has a reputation with her books and she has gone beyond expectations with Beyond the Code of Conduct.

Review:
Daughters has created a suspenseful and satisfying ride for the reader with Beyond the Code of Conduct. Bobbie and Joe are a delightfully stubborn couple; one wonders how they ever will work together or renew the relationship they once had. Written with plenty of big-Irish-family passion, lush descriptions and lots of emotion, this book had me scrolling through the pages from its exciting beginning to its unexpected ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent follow up to Against Doctors Orders, July 2, 2009
This review is from: Beyond the Code of Conduct (Paperback)
Mystery, Romance, Intrigue all wrapped up in this exciting second book in the Sullivan Boys series! I fell in love with Bobbie and Joe in the first book and was excited to see their reunion in Beyond the Code of Conduct. I found myself totally immersed in their fight to catch Jimmy's killer, all the while frustrated that they just wouldn't confess their feelings for each other! Talk about strong personalities! That's why we love them so much! I can't wait for the next book. Will it involve Brian? What romance and crime fighting awaits him?!

5.0 out of 5 stars An engrossing and hard to put down story!, June 17, 2009

First and foremost, I want to mention how much I love the cover of this book. It is a solemn and lonely vision, invoking yearning and desire. A perfect fit to this excellent story.

Beyond the Code of Conduct is actually the second in the Sullivan Boys Series. Though I have not been lucky enough to read the first in this series, I was still able to greatly enjoy this book. At no time did I feel lost or as though I had missed out on anything from the previous novel. However, I do have to admit that I desperately want to read the first in the series, Against Doctor's Orders, after being exposed to this great writing talent of K.M. Daughters.

What could be worse than baby trafficking and what could be greater than the desire to put a stop to it? In Beyond the Code of Conduct, Special Agent Bobbie Leighton and Homicide Detective Joe Sullivan are paired together to go undercover as a wealthy cattleman and his slightly airhead, but gorgeous wife. Under normal circumstances, this may not be such a hardship, however with the history between these two, sparks of every kind fly. The big question is whether or not they can hold it together long enough to expose this heinous crime before anymore victims are claimed.

I loved the writing style of K.M. Daughters - it is very smooth, engrossing and the characters honestly pop from the pages in vivid clarity. I greatly enjoyed the tension between the main characters of Bobbie and Joe and each one's personality and candor. Beyond the Code of Conduct holds suspense, thrills, romance and a twinge of the paranormal. In other words, this story has a bit of something for everyone.

Though short in length - 180 pages - it is not short on structure, plot, character development or it's ability to draw the reader in. I truly recommend this story to anyone looking for a great read that is quick and leaves the reader satisfied. I cannot wait to get my hands on other works by this author (or should I say authors).
