A good book with some reservations, July 16, 2001
This review is from: Beyond Death: Conditions in the Afterlife (Paperback)
This is an interesting read that opens a few new territories into the research of what happens after we die. It seems to corroborate some stories I've seen and read (from other previous sources), and contradict a few others that are just as reasonable and credible (example: Sylvia Browne tells a very different story regarding what happens to bad people after they die). As always, it is up to the reader to determine for themselves, the factuality of the information. My only problem with the book is the writing style and language that is used. It seems to me that all of the spirits are having a love affair with the word "wonderful." It's almost ridiculous how many times it is used in this book. On one page alone, I counted four "wonderful's", and that would usually be followed up by several more on the following page. What about "great", "tremendous", "marvelous", "spectacular", "overwhelming", "magnificent", etc.? Why nothing but wonderful? If you read the book, you'll quickly see what I'm talking about. It seems the spirits could have used a thesaurus or dictionary and come up with some other adjectives of the afterlife. My main concern here is that this simply the work of one writer who has a tendency to use the same style and wording for all of his works. Or, providing the authors with the benefit of the doubt, could be the work of one mischevious spirit that decided to have some fun with these silly mortals trying to break through to the other side. I hope that neither is the case, but I would love to hear Hans Holzer or Phillip Solomon's rebuttal to these ascertations. On the positive side, if true, the book does offer a great deal of hope and insight into the other side, a place we will all eventually end up. Regardless of the writing style and possible problems, the book is still is a great concept: find a renowned medium and have him ask questions to spirits regarding life after we die. My compliments to both authors on the concept. Overall, the book is worth a read, but, as with all things unproveable, make sure and read with an objective mind and not take anything at face value.

Not Sure How I Feel About This One..., February 17, 2006
This review is from: Beyond Death: Conditions in the Afterlife (Paperback)
I picked up "Beyond Death: Conditions in the Afterlife" because I am quite interested in this topic - I have read & enjoyed many books of a similar nature within the last few years.
Although much of the information contained here is the same (or at least very similar) to things I have read in the past, and tend to believe, there was something about the way it was presented here that didn't feel right to me - which is why I gave it 3 stars. It isn't something that I can put my finger on, so you'll have to forgive me for not explaining it any better than that.
Two things I did notice that I believe added to my unsure feelings were that: First, so many of the spirits tended to pat the author on the back - saying such things as he was the best, and that only a few in the world can do what he can re: mediumship. That would be fine to read a few times, but it got to the point where it was over-the-top in my opinion. And second, considering the overall number of spirits who supposedly communicated with this author, there was an awful lot of "celebrity" names - from Princess Diana to Hitler, and many, many in between.
Although I understand that we have celebrities here, and when they transition to the Other Side I would think that they are just as willing to come through as others, it just seemed like there were too many at once. Like they all wanted to get through to this medium. Like I said before, it just didn't feel right.
I personally would suggest reading books by Anthony Borgia if you're interested in this subject. He also writes about conditions on the other side, but gives a lot more info. about the little things and day-to-day existence.
As with all books of a spiritual nature, you can take what makes sense or feels right to you at the time, and leave the rest...

Brilliant book, June 28, 2001
This review is from: Beyond Death: Conditions in the Afterlife (Paperback)
This is a brilliant book. What is the person, under the title Misrepresented, who calls him/herself A Reader From The USA on about and, indeed, which planet is he or she on? This is clearly a person with little knowledge of either parapsychology or, more important in the context of this book, mediumship. I have seen Philip Solomon demonstrate as a medium and he is undoubtedly one of the very best trance mediums in the world. It would make no difference to him if the communication was from Elvis Presley or an everyday ordinary person. He would simply pass on the information he had been given, practically and clearly, which it seems to me he has done in this book. The reviewer also claims to have read most of the other books of Hans Holzer, as he titles him. Surely, therefore, the reviewer must realise PROFESSOR Hans Holzer has not only had a career as an illustrious ghost hunter - as the reader from the USA calls him, but is recognised as a highly respected veteran parapsychologist and I can assure him/her the professor has worked with and tested many of the world's leading mediums over many years. Surely he would be best to judge, which he does, with his firm acknowledgement in the book, whether Philip Solomon's contacts are genuine. However, let me assure you I am a very experienced medium and spiritualist myself and I also assure you that almost anyone with a basic understanding of psychic matters would clearly see that the description of the contacts made, confirmed and supported by Professor Holzer, are genuine and worthwhile studies for the reader. I, for one, would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one or who wishes to read and know more about the afterlife of celebrities and everyday ordinary people just like ourselves. Don't be as silly as reviewer `A Reader From USA' - get a copy of this book, the first real work by a genuine medium and parapsychologist as a team, and the book itself is excellent.
