A good book with some reservations,
This review is from: Beyond Death: Conditions in the Afterlife (Paperback)
This is an interesting read that opens a few new territories into the research of what happens after we die. It seems to corroborate some stories I've seen and read (from other previous sources), and contradict a few others that are just as reasonable and credible (example: Sylvia Browne tells a very different story regarding what happens to bad people after they die). As always, it is up to the reader to determine for themselves, the factuality of the information. My only problem with the book is the writing style and language that is used. It seems to me that all of the spirits are having a love affair with the word "wonderful." It's almost ridiculous how many times it is used in this book. On one page alone, I counted four "wonderful's", and that would usually be followed up by several more on the following page. What about "great", "tremendous", "marvelous", "spectacular", "overwhelming", "magnificent", etc.? Why nothing but wonderful? If you read the book, you'll quickly see what I'm talking about. It seems the spirits could have used a thesaurus or dictionary and come up with some other adjectives of the afterlife. My main concern here is that this simply the work of one writer who has a tendency to use the same style and wording for all of his works. Or, providing the authors with the benefit of the doubt, could be the work of one mischevious spirit that decided to have some fun with these silly mortals trying to break through to the other side. I hope that neither is the case, but I would love to hear Hans Holzer or Phillip Solomon's rebuttal to these ascertations. On the positive side, if true, the book does offer a great deal of hope and insight into the other side, a place we will all eventually end up. Regardless of the writing style and possible problems, the book is still is a great concept: find a renowned medium and have him ask questions to spirits regarding life after we die. My compliments to both authors on the concept. Overall, the book is worth a read, but, as with all things unproveable, make sure and read with an objective mind and not take anything at face value.

Not Sure How I Feel About This One...,

I picked up "Beyond Death: Conditions in the Afterlife" because I am quite interested in this topic - I have read & enjoyed many books of a similar nature within the last few years.
Although much of the information contained here is the same (or at least very similar) to things I have read in the past, and tend to believe, there was something about the way it was presented here that didn't feel right to me - which is why I gave it 3 stars. It isn't something that I can put my finger on, so you'll have to forgive me for not explaining it any better than that. Two things I did notice that I believe added to my unsure feelings were that: First, so many of the spirits tended to pat the author on the back - saying such things as he was the best, and that only a few in the world can do what he can re: mediumship. That would be fine to read a few times, but it got to the point where it was over-the-top in my opinion. And second, considering the overall number of spirits who supposedly communicated with this author, there was an awful lot of "celebrity" names - from Princess Diana to Hitler, and many, many in between. Although I understand that we have celebrities here, and when they transition to the Other Side I would think that they are just as willing to come through as others, it just seemed like there were too many at once. Like they all wanted to get through to this medium. Like I said before, it just didn't feel right. I personally would suggest reading books by Anthony Borgia if you're interested in this subject. He also writes about conditions on the other side, but gives a lot more info. about the little things and day-to-day existence. As with all books of a spiritual nature, you can take what makes sense or feels right to you at the time, and leave the rest...

Brilliant book,
This review is from: Beyond Death: Conditions in the Afterlife (Paperback)
This is a brilliant book. What is the person, under the title Misrepresented, who calls him/herself A Reader From The USA on about and, indeed, which planet is he or she on? This is clearly a person with little knowledge of either parapsychology or, more important in the context of this book, mediumship. I have seen Philip Solomon demonstrate as a medium and he is undoubtedly one of the very best trance mediums in the world. It would make no difference to him if the communication was from Elvis Presley or an everyday ordinary person. He would simply pass on the information he had been given, practically and clearly, which it seems to me he has done in this book. The reviewer also claims to have read most of the other books of Hans Holzer, as he titles him. Surely, therefore, the reviewer must realise PROFESSOR Hans Holzer has not only had a career as an illustrious ghost hunter - as the reader from the USA calls him, but is recognised as a highly respected veteran parapsychologist and I can assure him/her the professor has worked with and tested many of the world's leading mediums over many years. Surely he would be best to judge, which he does, with his firm acknowledgement in the book, whether Philip Solomon's contacts are genuine. However, let me assure you I am a very experienced medium and spiritualist myself and I also assure you that almost anyone with a basic understanding of psychic matters would clearly see that the description of the contacts made, confirmed and supported by Professor Holzer, are genuine and worthwhile studies for the reader. I, for one, would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one or who wishes to read and know more about the afterlife of celebrities and everyday ordinary people just like ourselves. Don't be as silly as reviewer `A Reader From USA' - get a copy of this book, the first real work by a genuine medium and parapsychologist as a team, and the book itself is excellent.

Loved this book!,

This review is from: Beyond Death: Conditions in the Afterlife (Paperback)
I first heard Hans Holzer interviewed on Whitley Streiber's radio show "Dreamland" on the subject of life after death. Holzer chose Philip Solomon as the medium to contact the dead as he is one of the most accurate mediums in the world. Holzer states that this book is the first time a methodical question-and-answer approach about life on the Other Side has been attempted, especially by a parapsychologist and a medium. What a great comfort this books was for me after losing a loved one 8 months ago.It was informative, full of interviews with famous people, such as Princess Diana, Elvis, and the not-so-famous giving us a glimpse of what does on in the Other Side, the type of reality that is experienced there, and that life continues on after death.

When it comes to spirit communication, I tend to be more of a believer than a sceptic but this book does not seem creditable to me. For some reason, Princess Diana, Al Capone, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis just happened to drop in for a chat. The author really lost me when he said that Princess Diana told him that she and Mother Teresa wanted to start a hospital on the other side! I can't say for sure if Mr. Solomon is a genuine medium or not and my respect for Dr. Holzer, who wrote the introduction, keeps me from dismissing this book completly but I can't recommend it either.

If you are a serious student of mediumship, don't buy this!,

When I looked inside at the T.O.C. for a quick read before buying, I should have known then that it is absolutely ridiculous! An interview with Hitler? Marilyn Monroe? Her so called interview starts with, "Of course, it's so nice to talk to you - let's not go through all of that stuff about how I died again. It's time for us to move on." Basically, the authors are not psychic, not revealing anything about anyone that is not common knowledge. For fun fiction, maybe - but NOT for a serious student of mediumship or metaphysics. Don't waste your money.

Beyond Death,
By Cassandra Barnes "Cassandra" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Beyond Death: Conditions in the Afterlife (Paperback)
Philip Solomon and Hans Holzer, Ph.D. wondered whether there was life after death. And if so, what was it like? Solomon is a renowned psychic, and Holzer has investigated paranormal phenomena for years and has written more than one hundred books. Together they set out to "interview" residents of the Other Side. Beyond Death is a compilation of those interviews. Indeed, the afterlife does sound much like present life, but with a few key differences. Residents of the Other Side have greater knowledge about their continuous existence and, in fact, chided Solomon and Holzer for using terms like death. Most of the interviews were with communicators residing in the "second level." Some were ordinary people, and others were famous, like Princess Diana, Judy Garland, and Al Capone. One personality spoke from his place in the "first level, " where he seemed quite pleased with his life of debauchery and violence. Many levels exist beyond the first few levels. Beings progress to them only as they're ready to do so. Beyond Death is filled with one fascinating account after another that provides a picture of the Other Side. As one personality says, those of us in this world will one day know "this same blissful acceptance of different people, and when their time comes to pass they should not be afraid. The spirit world is a wonderful place which awaits all, whoever and whatever you are."

I MUST SAY THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ LATELY. IT'S RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE CONVERSATION WITH GOD BOOKS. THIS BOOK GIVES YOU A RARE GIFT OF SEEING WHAT IT IS LIKE AFTER WE CROSS OVER. THIS BOOK IS BASED ON INTERVIEWS WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE CROSSED OVER AND GIVES YOU A CLEAR PICTURE OF WHAT ITS LIKE IN THE SPIRITUAL REALM. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER WE CROSS OVER AND WHAT WE WILL SEE AND EXPERIENCE. IT IS TRULY AN EXCEPTIONAL BOOK. I PERSONALLY HAVE BOUGHT SIX COPIES AND GIVE THEM OUT TO FRIENDS AS GIFTS. THERE ARE ALSO SOME INTERVIEWS WITH CELEBRITIES THAT HAVE CROSSED OVER LIKE; ELVIS, MONROE, JUDY GARLAND, DIETRICH PRINCESS DI AND EVEN AL CAPONE AND HITLER. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK HIGHLY ENOUGH. THE INTERVIEWS WERE CONDUCTED BY A GIFTED TRANCE MEDIUM PHILIP SOLOMON. PLEASE DONT PASS ON THIS ONE. GOD BLESS, SCOTT...P.S. IM NOT RELATED TO THE AUTHOR ALTHOUGH WE HAVE THE SAME LAST NAME.

Channelled Minor Entities from the Beyond.,

This review is from: Beyond Death: Conditions in the Afterlife (Paperback)
A typical Hans Holzer book of which he has pronounced the complete authenticity and veracity of the author, a young English native. I am well-read in the Seth and Abraham material, as well as others, and feel that the material within the book may well be authentic. The author has the enviable ability to easily contact many spirit entities, mostly those of the lower levels of Understanding in "Heaven," such as Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Princess Diana, Hitler and other lesser known people. A few other entities on "Higher Levels" also appear. Each contact appears as a brief chapter of 3-5 pages, written in a lively, down-to-earth manner and is remarkably consistent from tale tp tale, as well as with Seth & c.
What is valuable in this book are the consistent descriptions of "everyday life" in the "Lower Levels," which Seth and Abraham neglect to mention. Interesting.

If Mr. Solomon is indeed a famous medium, one can only assume he is way more interesting in person than he is on the written page. This book should have been fascinating, but ended up being duller than any other ADC/medium book I have ever read. Quite honestly, I didn't even read all the chapters. I would have expired from boredom. I had to read the Hitler chapter, though...Hitler was trying hard to relay his messages to Mr. Solomon...while Mr. Solomon kept telling him he didn't wish to speak to him...even though Hitler told him that he, Mr. Solomon, was the ONLY medium he had actually EVER spoken to since his death. Such a flattering remark didn't impress the author, however...leaving one to wonder why he even put the chapter in the book in the first place. It's not like Hitler said anything remotely interesting...it's not like anyone in this book said anything remotely interesting...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
