About the Author

Edgar Cayce was born in 1877 and lived until 1945. For more than forty years of his life, he gave what are called psychic readings. As a young man, he discovered that he had an unusual ability to put himself into an altered state of consciousness. He seemed to have access to virtually all knowledge. He was called the sleeping prophet" and is the most documented psychic of our time. The book There is a River documents this fascinating man s life and has sold more than one million copies.

More About the Author

Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) has been called the "sleeping prophet," the "father of holistic medicine," and the most documented psychic of the 20th century. For more than 40 years of his adult life, Cayce gave psychic "readings" to thousands of seekers while in an unconscious state, diagnosing illnesses and revealing lives lived in the past and prophecies yet to come. The organization founded by him in 1931 is still in existence today.

If one has the patience to read any of the books about Cayce's life and work, which apparently Jeri Nevermind doesn't, there is a lot to be gained. Of course, it is necessary to have a belief, through building experience with the entirety of Cayce's work, that there is a spiritual world. From that premise, study of Cayce's life and work with an open-minded attitude will bring about an expanded view in your life of our existence on the earth. Cayce was renowned for his abilities during his lifetime, and he was consulted by many famous people, including Presidents and Kings. Of course, there were critics also, as not everyone can expand their mindset to encompass a world beyond the material one we see everyday. But it was this world of spirit that animates the material world that Cayce was able to connect to and spoke of in his "readings." During his lifetime Cayce was best known for his health readings, and there is extensive evidence that when those who consulted him followed his advice - which he "read" from the world of spirit - their life and health improved.
If you are just getting started with Edgar Cayce's view of existence, I recommend reading There Is A River by Thomas Sugrue first, because that book will give you the background to understand how Cayce got his information and how his work was presented to the world. It will also help you understand the character of Cayce's life, which is an important tool in determining credibility. Trying to launch into his work with this book, as enticing a subject as it is, may be too difficult without a base of understanding about his life and work. Mr. Sugrue's book will lay the foundation for reading other works about Cayce.
I find Robert J. Grant's books, based on Cayce's work, to be good reads because Mr. Grant can take Cayce's sometimes difficult speech pattern and make it easy to understand.

I was surprised to find this at my library. Cayce, now dead, was once famous for his visions--but those visions were proven wrong, time and again.

This book is a strange muddle of Cayce's predictions and beliefs about death. I defy anyone to try and make sense of it. On page 37 he indicates "the soul...will meet God" after death, and even mentions Christ, but by by page 41 he states, "the attitude or phases of karmic forces" and later rattles on about channels and even Atlantis.

What? How can the fatalistic pantheism of Hinduism be combined with the Christ who stated he alone was 'the way' with no mention of other forces, karmic or not.

But that's Cayce for you. Much of the book is dull and drags, as Cayce states things such as, "Through all the vicissitudes of life this remaineth, for the entity has gained much that makes for that was given" ( p 104), whatever that means.

He is not a good writer.

Look, this is a man whose so called prophecies have been proven wrong, time and again. Anybody remember Armageddon in 1999? Cayce was sure it would arrive then. Or how about Atlantis rising from the ocean in around 1970? Oh, you don't recall that either? Cayce predicted it. Funny thing about it never happening.

Here's another of his disproven claims: the Mayans were a peaceful people who derived from Atlantis. Why yes, at the time when Cayce lived, it was believed the Mayans were peaceful. So his insistence that the Mayans were peaceful must have felt a safe bet.

Harvard University anthropologist David Stuart has researched the Mayans and guess what! They loved to sacrifice humans, especially young children, whom they roasted alive.

Maybe from all the other revies and write ups on this man I expected more. But nothing he wrote had credibility with me. I thought the book was lousy. But Amazon did ship on time with no issues.
