Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This book is for people who don't have time to deal with this issue?parents and teachers. After researching the topic and finding that most available titles were geared toward scholars, architectural designer Crawford has culled 101 tips from an extensive bibliography of gender-related research, included as an appendix. Her book offers thumbnail ideas and suggestions for nonsexist interaction with children. For example, "#15. To figure out what to say or do about a sexist situation, imagine how you would respond to a similar example of racism." Besides behavioral suggestions, she cites relevant toys, books, and videos for children. This is a practical supplement to works like Maggio's Dictionary of Bias-Free Usage (Oryx Pr., 1991). Recommended for larger libraries and special collections.?A. Arro Smith, San Marcos P.L., Tex.

This book presents the issue of gender bias in a very readable manner. I highly recommend this small, easy to read text for any parent, teacher or individual who has any contact with children. Wonderful examples of reframing available, good references and appendixes. Would make for a good gift for teachers or coaches. Very thought provoking.

This book is a great tool to identify gender bias in any school! I've been substituting in my school district recently and with the tips I found in this book I found many examples of how girls are unconsciously mistreated. This book makes a great gift for parents, students, teachers, and anyone interested in education!

I purchased this book to research for a sociology essay. I found it helpful. It's basically a self-help style book with tons of ways to address sexism, violence, and inequity with kids. I recommend it.
